Hey guys I recently picked up a 2005 Yamaha BWs with a Minarelli horizontal, I’m thinking either putting in Stage6 streetrace or Stage6 Sport Pro mk2. My question is what do I absolutely need to buy if I get the Stage6 Sport Pro mk2 and same with the streetrace. Would I be able to make the mk2 work with stock crank stock clutch stock variator with rollers and stronger spring, and a sport exhaust like Yasuni z? Then maybe get a better crank in the near future after I put the kit on? I am looking to go 100km/h on it and have the same questions for the streetrace if it works with stock carb stock crank stock exhaust or what you need to buy with it. Many thanks guys.

If your new to tuning I’d stay away from the sport MK2, it’s aluminum which is very unforgiving of lean tunes. The street race is cast and dual ring and will survive a few minor seizes. As for the crank it depends on condition and mileage. Me I’d do the crank first... or at the very least replace the wrist pin bearing. The Yasuni R would be a better choice for a pipe and it you decide to go with a better cylinder down the road it’ll probably be ok for that also. Springs and rollers for tuning are a must but don’t expect the stock clutch to hold up to 8K launches, I’ve found them to glaze quickly. Don’t forget carb jets, a fresh belt and spark plugs.
Welcome aboard!

Thanks for your reply! You think streetrace, crank, exhaust, springs, rollers, jets, belt, spark plug I’ll be good to go?

Do you think I could just do crank first and wait on the exhaust for a bit?

If your just going with the street race and your crank has low mileage you could hold off until your budget allows. If you’ve got 10,000 miles on it I’d look at replacing it before trying to squeeze more power out of your motor. A pipe on a 2 stroke is what really makes the power so I would consider that as part of your build. Stock cranks are pretty stout but they do wear with mileage and increased rpm. Pull the cylinder and check the play.

Are wrist pin bearings universal? And would I be better off with a 12mm I hear stock they are 10mm?

If you swap the crank I’d go for a 12mm version, but you’ll also need a 12mm pin piston to go with it so it would be better to do that in one shot. So I’d inspect yours first. The bearings are not universal - you’ll have to check the OD, ID and width and find a match. Stock rollers are usually 15X12, a cheap tuning roller set for 4.5-7 should be in the ball park. CVT tuning is trial and error, what works for me might not work for someone else with the identical build. Springs and rollers are cheap. I’d just use cheap stuff for tuning then swap to like Polini or Malossi etc for longevity. Here are a few sites for parts. www.scootertuning.ca/en/2-bws-zuma-50-2t-02-11www.partsforscooters.com/

I see! So you recommend getting a 10mm wrist pin bearing then if I’m not replacing crank? I’m going to take a look maybe tomorrow afternoon for the crank condition. Also what jets am I looking for lol or is that trial and error aswell?

Hey guys! I’m wondering what’s the best way to prepare a scooter to install a big bore kit! Any tips would be appreciated! Also how to jet a Zuma 50 and if a torque wrench is required when putting variator back on. Thanks!

Make sure you work clean. Clean is the key word here. Clean work bench and clean engine.
Make sure you have all the jets you think you need at hand. Or find a local scooter/moped/bike/dirtbike shop who carries jets. Use nothing but new gaskets (base, head and exhaust) and buy a tube of silicone gasket maker. Put a super super light coating of it on your base gasket.
Feeler gauges to measure ring gap and a piece of soldering tin to measure squish clearance.
A set of cf reed petals is also a nice way to minimize sudden death of your engine.
Use high quality oil, preferably full synth. But use mineral oil for breaking in period. Then switch to full synth.
Block off auto oil system and premix yourself. Takes away a big factor that greatly reduces reliability. When that pump for whatever reason decides to stop, you won't see it coming and you'll end up with a seized engine and a nice story for our 'walk of shame topic'.

I would definitely get a jet kit to go with your stock Teikei carb if you plan on keeping it WITH the stock airbox attached. An 88 main jet with a kit similar to the MK2 sport/pro, not Mk2 race, that I have on my Zuma seems to be the sweet spot with temps never exceeding 345-350. I recommend a larger fan from Tun’R or Buzzeti as the stock fan has small blades/smaller diameter. I saw temps decrease substantially with this cheap and easy upgrade.
I have a 70cc S6 cast “streetrace” bore on my 12mm Rx8 clone, and contrary to talk of S6s reliability on their kits, it has stood up to quite a bit of abuse i.e long WOT runs, downhill over-revs etc. it is a double piston ring kit that will surely outlast a single ring and will also be less vulnerable on a lean condition, less likely soft seize.

Thanks you guys for the tips!! I was already looking at cf reeds aswell, are they universal? I will look into something around 88 what jets am I looking for? Aswell the 2005 bws has 15x12 roller weights correct? Also what size crank pin am I looking for? And what top speed are you getting out of your streetrace on flat?

Aswell what do I need to do to get the engine out and ready to work on, just start unscrewing things until I’m good?
