Oh... so it all does look pretty bad haha? My lack of experience is becoming more and more obvious lol. Nothing wrong with your piston, except for the carbon buildup. You occasionally see 2T pistons with a divot in the center, who knows why they put them there. Lol!

Have you measured the piston pin yet? In one of your pictures it looks to be a 12mm pin. Let me know, I think I have a a used but good 70cc hoca kit here I dont need.

Thankfully I leave for vacation on Friday so I can order everything I need while I'm gone and install everything as soon as I get back.

That 'hole' in the piston is for a lathe center, its used during the ring groove machining operations... I made the same mistake years ago and thought I burned the cleanest hole ever in the piston crown when I was playing with timing, till these guys set me straight. www.scootertuning.ca/en/79-variatorsScroll down to the bottom and they have a bunch of fixed halves.

Have a decent head here if you still want to build a 50cc.. Thanks a lot man! Super appreciate it! If I don't end up with a second hand 70cc kit from oldgeek, I'll definitely put that head to good use for at least some months.

What makes type that don't have the squish band so bad to use? the squish band helps combustion. Our motors are small, efficiency is important. Especially when your talking about less than 10hp haha.
