Screw it all the way in and let it sit there for a minute and settle, then screw it way out and let it settle. If it doesn't respond either way the pilot jet may need to be changed or the carb needs to be cleaned.

Where was the needle? Move it one step at a time and see what position works best. This stuff is trial and error to some degree. Can't just pick the right one first try in most cases unless it's already close. The top clip position is the leanest, least fuel. The bottom clip position is the richest, most fuel. Primary area of effect is 1/4-3/4 throttle for the needle, but it can have some effect on idle or WOT.

You can check the reeds. If they don't seal it will run rich. You can hold the reed assembly up to light and see if any light gets through. If it's a sliver of light sometimes you can flip the reed petals over and they'll work fine.

Yeah, that's a problem. I'm not sure where a good source is for those. When I search I either get reeds for the Minarelli engine or the ones that come up that look like yours are overseas. Maybe someone that deals with TGB can give you a good source? If all else fails you can order carbon fiber reed material sheets and cut your own.

Those reeds looked pretty bad. I'm not sure flipping them will help as the sides won't seal.
