I'm curious if the same people who like small displacement scooters also enjoy small displacement cars.
I myself drive a 1.6L Ford Fiesta.

I have a Plymouth Grand Voyager with the 3.0 liter mitsubishi motor in it. She still get about 22mpg on average, 25hwy, heading toward 300,000 miles on it now.
Its been real reliable, and the sheer amount of space in the back of it (i can lay 4x8 sheets of plywood flat in the back of it) has been handy.
We both like small displacement motors too, and are considering something much smaller for our next vehicle, something that gets over 40mpg, sub 2.0liter, and put a trailer hitch on it + get a trailer for hauling needs.
I'd buy another voyager/caravan in a heartbeat though if i ran across a clean one. This is my second one, and... if you service them well, they are pretty indestructible, and cheap on insurance.

I don't own a car or truck as the scooters are my main mode of transport. But my wife owns an '07 Ford Freestyle with the old 3.0L Vulcan V6 to carry our four children around. But if we were in need of another vehicle it would be a 2.0L or less compact/sub-compact.

I don't own a car anymore, but till last year I had a 1990 Mustang GT with a 331 (5.4L) stroker. Now I use my father's 2002 Mazda B3000 if I use a cage. I do not enjoy the engine in it. It's 3.0L that makes 170HP in a truck that weighs about 3800-3900lb with driver. It's got 3.73 gears and still you have to be generous with the throttle to keep up with normal traffic taking off. It also gets poor gas mileage, 17-19 around here doing errands and up to 21 or so on the highway. I put a K&N filter and Magnaflow catback on it for him years ago and they helped a tiny bit, but it's kinda sad. I've offered to pull the heads off and see if anything relatively simple could be done to get it moving better. I also told him he could have the engine and transmission from my Mustang, with or without the turbo, before I sold it and I'd do the swap but he declined. Now that the engine and trans are long gone he says he should have taken me up on the offer.

Lol, buy an old 302HO or a crate engine and make that lil pickup fun! Bet it gets the same or better MPG too! Well, with your foot out of it anyway.
I used to have an 03 Ranger (same thing) 4x4 with the 4.0 and it did pretty well for what it was IMO.
I have had a 93 Mustang LX for the past 7 years. 2,300cc auto. More than paid for!

Yeah, with the 331 NA I was getting 19-20MPG with 3.73s and the AOD normal driving and my convertible wasn't all that much lighter than the little truck.
I test drove a 4.0 and it was way better. A friend had a 2.3L with the manual and that could keep up with the 3.0 auto. I don't even know why they made the 3.0 other than to make people think they were stepping up from the 4 banger without having to pay quite as much for the 4.0. Hard to complain though, the thing was on sale new for $13,000 out the door as a leftover 2002 in 2003 and in 11 years it's had no major issues other than being a turd. lol

I have a .. don't laugh... 99 Kia Sephia. 1.6l (barely...) and KIA says it's suppose to have around 110hp. HAH! I put an aftermarket air filter on it, but no other mods. Really, short of throwing a whole new motor in the car, it won't go any faster. I avg between 25-28mpg and it runs decent. No payments either. After this scoot build, it will be at least another year before I can afford to buy another car.
I did have a good laugh once though and looked up what a turbo would cost to put on it. Let's just say, I'd rather pay for a sex change, it would be less embarrassing.

ironically enough we have the same engine 3.0L engine. The reason that Ford used that engine was because the tooling for the engine had bin payed off for over a decade(it first showed up in the late 70's early 80's) and was a simple design. Plus it had more torque over the 2.3 but you are right when loaded with 4x4, auto, supercab and driver and gear it just didn't have the power.

In my opinion V6 engines are thee most inefficient design of engine in cars today. On average most V6 engines offer the fuel economy of a V8 with the power output of a L4 lol. But I think a force fed V6 could get it done, but....ehh. However I think L6 engines are absolutely wonderful.. RB's, 2J's, L-types
