Why loctite is important... Only took a few short rides to vibrate the top bolt off the cooling shroud. Here's the aftermath. Have an extra one from the Zip- parts scoot butt save #63...

I should've had the new plastics on by now and doing some cosmetics, but I'm stuck messing with this carb. I've taken it on and off half a dozen times trying to figure out why it starts to leak fuel out of the bowl drain after a minute or so of idling. I've already wrapped the drain screw in teflon tape and it seems to seal fine. If it wasn't sealing it would just drain all the time until the bowl is empty. Correct? I've inspected with a flashlight to make sure it isn't just an optical dilusion and the fuel is coming from somewhere else and just appears to be draining at the lowest point- the drain hole. I'm scratching my head on this one... I've already adjusted the float- it was plastic so no bending- I had to heat it with a lighter and melt it a bit... float and shut off needle seem fine. I'm sick of messing with it and now I'm attempting to just put a hose extension on the drain nipple and cap the hose...

Finally got the carb sorted out. In the end it was a lot of fiddling with the float level and since this Leader carb has such a big 40 idle jet, I took the snorkel out of the airbox to lean things out a bit. Weird- the only way I can get these Mikuni type carbs to run good is snorkel out, and to get the other 49cc style carb to run good, it's snorkel in... Fires up instantly at the touch of the button now and idles perfectly! Should make somebody a real nice scoot.

Had to work on the carb again grrr. Float level problems. Got it ironed out and time to take a break. We're going for a scooter ride!

Getting some more work done on the flip tonight. The controls from the Zip parts scoot are in much better shape than the Expresso ones. Swapping them over. Also got some painted parts hanging...

Well, here's a setback I wasn't expecting; the wiring harnesses for these controls are totally different! Not even close- one has 8 pin male, the other has two connectors, female 6 spot and 2 spot. Time to start "decoding".... Here it is ready to try out. Everything worked correctly the first try! Sweet! Left side control re-wired and mounted, now to do the right... Hope the new owner appreciates this scoot- it's turning out pretty decent.

Well it seems to me that one of the quickest ways to get the impression that a scoot is old and tired is by looking at it's yellowed out headlights. Yuck. So I dug out my headlight restoration kit to see if I could at least improve the look of this old yellowed plastic. I figured it'd be in vain since I wasted about two hours trying to restore the headlight plastic on my old Baccio scoot to no avail... This time it worked! Well, kinda. I got the center headlight portion looking pretty clear, but the side markers are just too far gone. My solution? Paint! I coated the insides of the blinker plastics with a thin layer of orange paint. I finished up by polishing it all out, and while I was at it, I polished the front body panel as well. Sure looks better than the old tired front that was on it!

Why the hell do they call this 2T Minarelli scoot a "Turbocam" anyway??

I had the same scooter a few years ago. Someone's attempt at marketing I suppose.

Nice job on the headlight/signals. Everybody wants a turbo and a hot cam I guess so make it sound like you're giving them both and they should sell like hotcakes. Gotta be faster than every other scooter you've been looking at with a title like Zip and Turbocam.

Thanks Brent! It's coming together nicely now. Throughout the process I've been scrubbing each plastic body panel with soap and water. Not necessary for a quick flip I know, but I like that the scoot just seems "clean" even though some of the parts have certain scuffs and mars. We've nearly got a scooter here! I did make one pretty big mistake though... I ordered the gauge cluster too late. I knew from the beginning that the only part that I actually wanted to buy for the scoot was a shiny new instrument cluster. It was to be the cherry on top. My mistake was that I dragged (drug?) my feet. I ordered it two days ago from partsforchinesescooters.com and although the scoot will be detailed and ready tomorrow, the speedo cluster is still 5 days out.... Coming together.

That's good to know. They processed the shipping ticket today. There's no info at the tracking yet but should be on it's way.

Well I got a nice surprise at lunchtime today; The instrument cluster is here! Two thumbs up Partsforchinesescooters.com! Three days from order to doorstep. Dang near as fast as partsforscooters haha. $41 shipped. With any luck I'll get out of work at a decent time tonight. The only things left to do are to do some rust cleanup on the exhaust, install instrument cluster, and take pics and a video for the Craigslist ad. Tomorrow will be exactly a week since I bought it. Here's a sneak preview...
