Here's the new setup I've got to eliminate vibration from the scooter I also want to point out that the 4 pole setup is not quite powerful enough for the R50X as I can tell the lights get slightly brighter at like 8k RPM vs 6k RPM. they still work but you can tell its not optimal. oh yeah and before I did the night ride (9 minutes long btw) I switched to a 95 jet from an 85 jet. Was hoping to see some color on the plug but alas it still looks the same (basically white but a shade darker than white) I might plop a 105 in there (I hate changing jets though) just to see how big of a jet I can fit in there before it starts acting rich, just to be on the safe side. I don't imagine I have an air leak as literally nothing has changed and it ran fine before. Here's the timeline: plug perfectly tuned at 100 MJ fix exhaust plug turned black with 100MJ stator problems, replaced stator, put in 85MJ 85 MJ white 95 MJ white. beats me lol. I usually can see color on a plug within a few miles of riding.

That cam does a nice job, even at night. Good buy. If you keep having issues with the rattle, you can try electrical tape on the edges of the cam to see if it will quit. Maybe even some painter's tape so it would be less likely to leave residue.

swapping in 5.5g rollers instead of 6g, went from 8200 to 8400 shifting. might need to go lower. misplaced the 4g rollers that came with the hoca variator =[ went down a slight incline going with the wind and hit 55mph for a good long time and then dropped to 54mph and held it there. went up the same incline going into the wind and got like 49mph (it was still accelerating I just didn't keep going). Going to check plug later when it cools off. Here it is, looking good!

My hoca won't work cause of kick start binds up,had some free time today and tried to put it on the key west but kick lever wouldn't retract so I took it off,I was pissed so It must only work with electric start!! You still running the open air filter trey?

Still running the uni filter. and yes I removed the kick start entirely.
So I took it for a bit longer drive at higher speeds today and about half a mile from home (maybe a quarter of a mile) I was going 50 and bam it just shut off on me. I got it on video too.
pulled over and tried to start it but the starter just turned, no spark no RPM shown on the gauge.
I had heard a noise when I let off the throttle but I wasn't sure if it was the wind hitting my sjcam or what it was.
at this point I am still baffled as to what it is. before I tore down I hit the electric start and it would turn the fan on the side from what I saw, but no RPM on the tacho shows me no spark.
disassembled CVT. nothing out of place.
took out plug, looks a little more grey to me on the metal ring but other than that looks fine.
spun the variator fan, felt fine.
took off the flywheel fan, looked at the flywheel stator and flywheel look fine. exciter coil and pickup coil resistance looks the same, maybe a little higher than usual (like 10-15%) thinking because of heat. the flywheel was very very hot where the exhaust pipe was cool to the touch after having been cooled off. not sure if its because its closer to the engine or what.
after I removed flywheel I checked the crank for play, felt fine.
checked exhaust, no leaks, looks fine.
Did I soft seize?
Will post vid in a few.

Aghhhhhhh
the tacho just went straight to nothing when it happened.

the stator did kind of rub a tiny bit against the flywheel when I put it in. maybe its related. theres the inside of the flywheel, it looks fine everywhere except this point it has pretty bad scratches. stator looks fine

Soft seizes don't cause a lack of spark or prevent the tach from working. If you have no spark you need to follow that path, much like how you did when you were diagnosing the first failure.

Yeah I just put the flywheel back on and gave the electric start a try and it gave me spark.
will test to see tommorow.
Is it possible the rubbing created a massive amount of heat and temporarily the stator just lost resistance due to the heat and therefore no spark?

Sorry about your bike dying out on you like that. Sure would be nice if things would just last forever.
On a different note; The video looked really good for a night time shoot. Sounded good as well so I was wondering if you'd done anything for the wind noise, or not?

haven't done anything for the wind noise but I may have been riding with the wind so that might explain that lack of it.

If it's seized it won't spin the crank or will it?
I remember it wouldn't start at all when I got it home, but the fan was spinning so the engine was turning over.
If it starts tommorow: stator overheated and lost spark If it doesn't start: seized and lost compression and now won't ignite.
sounds good?
