I though i would share a little project i have started. As you can gather from my username i am a teacher specifically an ag/shop teacher. This gives me the ability to build pretty well whatever I want. And this go round I'm building a trailer for my vino. I really enjoy running errands on my scoot and really just taking it anywhere i can in town. Sometimes that requires me to haul more than will fit in my milk crate and under my seat. Also i would like to be able to take my dog to the park and drive my scooter. After a little research i decided a single wheel trailer would be fun and useful. So far I have framed out a 20"x30" box with 1" square tubing. Now i am working on the tounge portion. Here are some pics of my progress. I am planning on the tongue being able to articulate both horizontally and vertically. Kind of like a u-joint. For the rear I am going to make a simple swing arm with a scooter wheel and a single shock. I have quite decided how i want to make the cargo space. I want to build sides to secure what ever i am hauling but still be able to strap my 24x32 dog kennel to it. So i have some designing to do. As for the trailer hitch on the scoot i am not completely sure. I am thinking of fabbing up a bracket that bolts on where the muffler bolts. But I'm not sure. This may be a fairly slow process so stay tuned.

Why go with just a single wheel on the trailer? While stopped are you not worried about the trailer tilting too far to either side? Maybe think about attaching the bracket for the hitch where the shock attaches to the engine assembly.

I like the single rear wheel idea. If far enough back I think it would ride better than two wheels and be plenty stable.

There was a guy doing a long ride for some cause on a ruckus that had a long single wheel trailer. It looked good and worked good. I want one myself

That was a cool picture of the trailer that would come in handy. I think I would need one too.

It's been a while since I posted. Grad school, teaching and weather have cut into my scooter time. With Christmas break looming I have been able to work on my trailer some. Here are some pictures. I pretty well have the suspension and rear wheel finished. I'm still pondering on the hitch.

Take the wheel out of pivoting caster and mount it either to the tongue or to a plate or tube off the bank of the scoot. Then you use a bolt through the axle hole of the caster connecting it to either the tune mounted off the back of the scoot or threw the tongue depending where you want the caster. I personally would mount the caster to the end of the tongue and just mount a square tube off of the rear cargo rack on the scoot. That way you have a multiple pivot point. :2cents: What are you hauling on that trailer, a tractor or something? That thing looks extra extra super duty and really heavy IMO. Looks good though. :thumb:

Ha ha it's really not as heavy duty as it looks. It's just 1" square tube and a front scooter fork modified some.

It looks stout maybe a little overkill for a 50cc. I was just curious if maybe you were running tractor tires or parts on it. If I find the link to the hitch I mentioned I'll post it. I think I sent it to FrankenMech once. You caught my attention with the dual shocks. It's nice to see different approaches to unique utilities. This place is full of knowledgeable and creative individuals. Can't wait to see the pooch going on a ride.

That craigslist link is long gone.
The HF trailer I am modifying is way stout for a scoot also. It weighs over a hundred pounds but most of the weight is in the axle and wheels. If that is too heavy I can always replace it with some bike tires. I am using a plain 1-7/8" swaged out to 2" trailer coupling with a swivel ball assy. Just a piece of angle with a lubed up bolt & washers into a plate mounted on the scoot. It allows rotation until the tail light wires 'stop' it. The damn 2" ball weighs a half ton, but it is compatible with all my other trailer equipment.
