How bout hose the switches down with WD40 to clean the corroded contacts??I'd be wanting to get that cussid 4t out of my shed too!A big smile comes to my face every time I fire up a 2T,whether a string trimmer, leaf blower,or the mighty chain saw,,smoke billowing, wood chips flying like grated cheeze,OHHH,the joy!!! Yesterday was just not my day on this thing. Today is better! I ended up making a hybrid switch from a few different parts and it works great! I was planning on ordering a new switch from Partsforscooters since they arrive quickly, but they're out of stock until December. Fix one thing and another problem pops up. While swapping front disc brake calipers around to be able to use a different switch I discovered the Parts Zip caliper simply doesn't work so I went back to the original. One of the screws stripped out and somehow- maybe I just didn't notice- the sight glass on the working caliper had a slice in it all the way through.... Ugh! I took a trip out to a scooter junkyard in St. Pete today and must say it was basically a waste of time. They're used parts are more expensive than what I can brand new for online! I was thinking I could pick up the brake caliper and a blinker relay I need for maybe $10. They wanted $35 for the caliper. They're $25 at Partsforscooters brand new. the guy said "we can't compete with online prices." I ended up just buying the sightglass replacement for $10. Although their prices were high the junkyard was an interesting place. I asked if they had any scooter frames with titles and they do. He explained that since they were a business it was illegal for them to buy any scoots or frames without a title, so everything they have has titles. The titled stripped frames were $125.
Like I said, today is better than yesterday. I made the repair on the working caliper. I drilled the stripped screw out and also got the other broken screw out by drilling into it with a tiny drill bit and using a square bit driver tapped in, I extracted the broken screw. The sight glass also tapped out easily from inside once I had the cover off. It's these small things that really slow u down...

Finally got the caliper together and the front brakes bled and working! Thank goodness for youtube. Here's the 'poor man's coke bottle method' I used... www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPED10a5zWc

So for $125 I could have a title and a frame I don't need. Hmm? Interesting. Wheels turning.

The blinker relay that the guy threw in for free with the sight glass worked perfectly! Even had the right plug! Blinkers are flashing again. Tackled the last issue- horn didn't work- fixed the little spring inside the button and now the scoot is fully functional! Craigslist here I come!

Would you really need to swap it though? Maybe just the vin tag?

Would you really need to swap it though? Maybe just the vin tag? IDK- to be on the safe side I guess- the police that thought they found my scoot had no idea that the vin was engraved into the frame behind the rectangle pop-out in the leg shield.

In any case I think it's possible to look at scoots w/o titles and have an option. For me anyway. I may come calling for you to see if they have a certain frame/title for me.

Cool! There's been a retro 2t up near Daytona w/o title that looks nice for $250. So I'd be in it for $375 and some driving. Not ideal but better than what I've been seeing.

The way he explained it- it sounds like any commercial junkyard would have to have titles for everything!

1:1 water and muriatic acid is my new favorite rust remover! These parts were covered in rust 20 mins ago. I wasn't even sure the bolts and washers were save-able!
