I've never done it so I could be totally wrong or missing something, but I wouldn't think it would be too tough. Change the stator and CDI and those two would hook together just as they do on typical scoots. Then just get the right wires headed to the coil, ground, and for kill switch input. If you have other 2Ts around with those parts so you aren't shelling out, wouldn't be a lot of effort to try it prob.

That's actually a good idea. Why didn't I think of that? lol. The sisters headed back home today so I'm back at it with the scoots... Good News! I got this 2t Honda Dio CDI from partsforscooters today and got it hooked up and seems to work! I just have the scoot on the stand for now but it is revving. This is DC CDI #3. The first two were 4t and $25 each and this one is 2T and was $30. So I've got $80 into CDI's not including shipping. I could've just gotten the Beamer one for $85 from the get-go but I wouldn't have had all this fun learning haha. Here's an interesting fact; This Honda Dio CDI plugs right into the Eton Beamer! (Well, it would've if I hadn't snipped the plugs off.) I tried a few different wiring configurations that I found online but it was the original Eton Beamer configuration that made the CDI fire!

Had a strange experience with this CDI last night. I was holding the spark plug to a bolt (frame ground) to check for spark and I noticed a few times that the plug would keep sparking after I let the starter button off if I still had the brake lever pulled in. Weird. Then I kept getting shocked by the coil whether I had the lever pulled in or not! I'm assumed it was the capacitor discharging willy nilly so I added in a frame ground and sealed everything up with ultra grey and now all is well. Took the Beamer for a decent ride- 45 mins or so and all is good. No more cutting out from a restricted CDI and she does about 40 per the speedo. The plastics were already in pretty good shape so just a little touch up paint on the luggage rack, some tire foam to make it all shiny, and a bit of buffing and she's ready to sell!

Niz, Could you recap the CDI box swaps with P/N's so the rest of us wont have to walk down this road of we have an Eton with a bad one?
Thanks! John

Yes what John said lol. I want to do a 12 pole dc vino stator swap on my Zuma and Eton for more power for lights and your dc cdi swap info would be valuable thanks brian

Agreed. I'm one step short of bolting on a cheap car alternator for more power myself lol.

Niz, Could you recap the CDI box swaps with P/N's so the rest of us wont have to walk down this road of we have an Eton with a bad one? Thanks! John *EDITED* Absolutely fellas. I even confused myself at the end haha. I should probably start off by saying that I would suggest just spending the $85 for the correct Eton CDI. With that being said- here's a way to save yourself $50! Here's the $85 Eton DC CDI on Ebay. It has the green wire that can be cut to eliminate the RPM restriction. www.ebay.com/itm/Eton-812796-633933-CDI-Module-49cc-e-ton-Beamer-I-II-III-Matrix-50-2-plug-6-pin-/321499549556?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4adaddcf74&vxp=mtrHere's another for $75. www.ebay.com/itm/DERESTRICTED-CDI-ECU-BOX-FOR-ETON-BEAMER-II-III-50-E-TON-MATRIX-2-3-50CC-SCOOTER-/310969653552?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item48673c5930&vxp=mtr As you can see the price is a little high which is what prompted me to search for alternatives. I tried a 4t DC CDI but the timing was too far advanced at anything above idle. I ended up using this DC CDI at Partsforscooters.com for $30 which is meant for a 2 stroke Honda Dio. Part # 169-158 www.partsforscooters.com/169-158-Honda-Dio-CDIIt may seem a bit daunting to try to re-wire a CDI to work, but these 2t DC CDI's are surprisingly simple. Although they have 6 pin connectors they only use 4 of them; 12v+, stator, ignition coil, and 12v-. Here's the Eton wiring diagram: Here's what mine ended up looking like. I had cut the wires while trying a few different configurations, but if you're using this CDI for your Eton you can use the original plugs. You only need to swap the ignition coil (white/blue) and 12v- (black) pins around. ) I thought I should also add a quick tip about the DC CDI here: when I was using the battery that was junk that came with the scoot I experienced very hard starting- when I'd hook the scoot up to a battery charger it'd start on first kick! I purchased a brand new battery and she now starts right up everytime with no problems.

Hey niz76, how much would you charge to come re-build my VX for me? You're getting too good at slapping these things back together!

Absolutely my pleasure fellas! Remember that "glitch" I was mentioning? It showed back up again and I figured out what it was. It had nothing to do with the battery having a good charge- I had two wires backwards- the battery negative and ignition coil. Surprised it ran so good that way! I've edited the info and it's actually easier than originally thought- no need to add the frame ground...
