Crap crap crap! I was cleaning this (what I originally thought was brass) tube on the petcock and it's all dry rotted and falling apart. It has a crack along nearly the whole length and now this nice tear! Hmm.. I'm searching around for something I can use... damn. It's always these little things that slow me down.

I use 1:1 muriatic acid and water- same idea as vinegar but much faster!

Yes. The pin gets tight in the piston after use sometimes, but otherwise it should all move pretty freely. I was surprised to see that this 139qmb doesn't use a wrist pin bearing- piston pin just slides into crank end- interesting... Oh yeah. Sorry about that, I've only been messing with 2T internals for a while. Getting nervous- this is my first time digging into a 4t and I don't have any confidence in myself yet. Hope she runs!! I'm also worried about the 50mm piston. I couldn't find any 47mm bbk's w/everything I needed at the time I ordered this so I just said "screw it" and got the 50mm... hope it doesn't come back to bite me in the ass!! I wouldn't make a habit of using 50mm kits simply because if it does fail in 1,000 or 2,000 miles it looks worse on you. The avg Joe informed that an engine has a new top end will expect more than that I'd imagine. That said, you can sorta de-tune it with a little heavier rollers in hopes that it lasts longer. Some say they are doing fine for a long time with 50mm kits so hopefully that's how this one goes. I'm also a little worried about the main jet I'm using- The MJ that came with the BBK was way too tiny- wonder what it's for? There's a scoot shop close by so I can run up and grab some main jets if I need to- the one that's in the carb now is a 91. I don't have any experience with this 4t... any idea what stock size range usually is? 75-80 stock usually. If any mods are done, like removing the airbox restriction/cap it will need to be larger. If the airbox is in stock form a 91 should be an OK starting point with the big bore.

This kit came with some 8g roller weights which is the heaviest I have. I'll give it a shot and hope for the best!

Instead of trying to find a tube that'll work for this petcock, I opted to slide a peice of fuel line over it. I put a drop of super glue at the end- I'm not even sure super glue is fuel resistant but even if it isn't the friction fit should keep the tube in place. It had a filter- even though the pickup tube slid all the way through it? Not sure how that works but I enlarged the hole and put it back anyway lol. Hope it works!

Clean as a whistle! (kinda ) I was kinda saving this nice big clear (marine style) fuel filter for my own scoot, but oh well- it's the only clear fuel filter I have on hand right now so I'll sacrifice it in the name of getting the show on the road!

It's alive!! It's seems to be running pretty good but I have a definite "ticking" noise... I'll admit that I did cheap out and still haven't bought feeler gauges yet. I used a strip of aluminum from a Bud Light can lol. I think i read somewhere that it's .004?? That's what I set the valves to anyway. Here's a video of it in action- what's the ticking noise?? (For some reason everytime I upload a vid to Youtube it's sideways- it's "processing" right now but it should be right-side-up and stabilized shortly.)

That's the valves. Haven't measured a Bud Light can, but a lot of aluminum cans are around 0.004". Hard to tell how loud it is with a video because some cameras exaggerate those frequencies, but some noise is normal. If you think it's excessive spend the <$10 on feeler gauges that at least go down to 0.002".

Looks like Autozone has a set that goes down to .0015

I bought a set from HF and they were ok. They go down to .0016" (.04mm). I also picked one up from HD, their Husky brand for $9.99 and it goes down to .005" (.13mm) just so you know what goes to what. I think I gapped my M1 using the .04mm gauge because it's removed from the HF set and bent. The HF set is straight but the HD brand Husky has a bend at the end.

I adjusted both valves down to .0025. There's a slight tapping (which I read is healthy?) Engine sounds much better now! Well I guess I got my wish- I found out what makes these 4t's tick! hehehe (crickets). For some reason I thought you could run these 4t's without the valve cover on. You can imagine what happened when I fired it up!

I priced out the main and lower shroud I need at $17.00 w/shipping from partsforscooters. (I have the upper). I think I'll try my luck at some local scoot places tomorrow so I can have them in hand. If I can't find them It'll be Tues. before they get delivered and I can take this scoot out for a decent thrashing!

You can imagine what happened when I fired it up! So how much oil did you wear? After reading these last few posts, now I think I need to re-adjust my valves again. I think I made them too tight. Though there hasn't been any issues. And yes, they sound like a slot machine when they run sometimes at first. Just imagine your car in a much smaller scale. PS. Since I found out today that I can't complete the front end job on my car this weekend, I think you're encouraging me to attempt the BBK in one of my scoots this weekend. 2TDave will be happy to see me finally do it too.
