Paint's been flying for a couple days now and here's where I'm at... This is the first time painting everything on a scoot... so time consuming.

With a constant stream of flips you may wanna consider common items like plugs and filters and glitter blast by the case if you can get a savings.

A novel idea! Hey... You do love to blast some glitter on these things after all. I'm sure 90GTVert was chuckling while he was typing that but honestly meant it in all seriousness. Look on eBay for lots of some of the stuff maybe? Or maybe start looking for different distributors of them.

I'm still on my first can of- um- "flake spray" (sounds more manly than glitter blast!)- I do however use a poop ton of carb cleaner and paint. My buddy suggested a nice small gravity fed spray gun if I'm gonna do a lot of painting... plus he mentioned there are a ton of cool colors available for that application instead of being limited to what I can get in rattle cans.

I agree with the buddy. Getting your own gun (and compressor if you don't already have one) is a must if you're going to do body work. I want to sandblast a few things here and there and my friend is trying to talk me into either making my own kit or buying a new compressor and sandblaster kit. I'm not spending $250 (compressor would be most of that of course) just so I can clean a few small parts here and there. Otherwise I'll sandblast my neighbors cats just for fun.
There has to be a way to get some brake/parts cleaner cheaper too.

............There has to be a way to get some brake/parts cleaner cheaper too. Check Big Lots if you have one down there. I get my carb cleaner from there for $1.80 a can. I buy it by the gross. LoL! (not really)

I had a good paint gun hvlp is preferable. Its high volume low pressure. Unless you plan on painting a lot of the scoots the same color it will get expensive. I have used ppg paint a bit and it comes with the color and thinner you have to mix. I think a few ounces is about as expensive as a pint. Being they have to mix it ect. If you do go that route defiantly check with the paint shop and see what they have laying around maybe get a good deal if tablet have some someone never picked up. Also, I have heard wait with sparkle called fish scale, I assume because of the shine. I think it can look really good after you lay a few base coats and the 4-5 clear coats for depth. Stuff is looking good! Takes a lot of time to do it right! Just fyi if you paint an area thats impossible to tape off coat it with Vaseline and when everyeverything is dry you can just wipe it off. I have consider flipping some scoots but there are some nice elites in my area that have not been able to sell for a decent price. Guess I have to by junkers for real cheap and shine them up. Me personally would prefer a ugly 2 stroke over a brand new tao.

Thanks for the good info Nelson- A vendor at work that I've used for years uses a HVLP system to resurface countertops and bathtubs... I had a major setback last night. A hefty mistake on my part- I accidentally melted the front cover fairing in the oven uggghhh! It may sound funny, but I can assure you it was not. I've been using the oven to cure the paint and clearcoat on the body panels and it's been working great to really speed up the whole painting process. My oven's lowest setting is "warm" at 170 degrees. I put the front panel in after wet-sanding (the very last piece of course) and twisted the knob past 250 to heat things up for a few minutes- I usually then shut it off and the heat is enough to give a great cure. Somehow I got distracted and when I came back the part was badly melted and destroyed. AAhhh! I scrambled and did my best to straighten it back out- even re-heated it to melting a few times over but it'll never be the same. I also did some work on it with a heat gun but some parts simply shrunk and I'll stretch it out like it was. It's $100 to replace it (there's a $75 cracked used one on feebay) and that's just not in the budget right now. I got the fitment the best I can and spent 5 hours trying to straighten it out with bondo and sanding and more bondo and more sanding. It actually turned out better than I ever thought it would but I'm really bummed because I've put so much time and effort into making this a really nice Zuma for someone... My wife made me feel a little better by pointing out that it's "only cosmetic" Sorry I didn't get any pics of it melted ( just imagine everything being really wavy and twisted) but I really wasn't in the documentation mood at that point- here's a pic of it 4 hours later....

Back into paint after hours of work- looks pretty decent but the fitment of the parts just isn't the same
