Hi everyone, I'm new to the scooter scene and have just picked up a little 2011 Yamaha jog with 20000kms for $800! (here in Australia thats pretty dam cheap) Anyway as I know the bare basics about scooters I was just wondering if anyone would be able to lead me in the right direction with a few cool little mods to do that won't be too expensive.
At the moment I'm planning on painting the jog, getting a new exhaust as well adding a BMX Bike rack to the back of it. I have read a little bit about Racing variator kits, clutch springs and weight rollers but as I know very little i have no clue what weights or size springs I need and would like to know what people would recommend. I have also read about performance CDI's and getting new jets in the carb and would like to also know what people recommend.
Any help would be much appreciated,
Thanks a lot!

With 20,000km on it my thought would be to go over it and see what you've got or what it needs before deciding on any mods. Inspect the CVT, at least check compression if not pull the head off for a look, clean the carb, change the gear oil, check the steering system, tires, and look for loose nuts and bolts.

I got around to have a look at the CVT today, it was very hard to get off and when I finally got it open it was covered in black dust so I wiped it all off and noticed that there was some slight cracking on the inside of the case as well as one of the flywheel fins on the front pulley had been snapped off. Should I now get a new front pulley? I wasn't able to get the clutch off and didn't want to ruin anything so I'm thinking of taking it into the local scooter repair shop and getting them to have a look at it.

Nice clean lookin Jog! So they hang the blinkers up over down under?? hehe Thanks, all the panels are pretty clean just a little bit slow! Yeah it's so stupid thing you have to do to pass a compliance test but you can change it back up easily which Im planning on doing to make it look abit cleaner.

Great Scoot and in very good condition as well! Are you sure that this is a 2011 model? I don't know about Jogs in Downunder but that looks like a SA16J CV50 Series Jog. There are two generations that look like that, the 5KN 1-4 series (Dec. 2000 - 2002) and the 5SU 1-8 series (2003-2006/7). Your CVT cover and filter box say 5SU so i guess it is a 2003-2006 Model. Here are my two ladies. The front one is a 2003/02 5SU-1 SA16J CV50R Jog and the behind is my new one a 2000/12 5KN SA16J CV50R Jog. They are not as fast as their predecessor (3YK) or the 7HP (horsepower) Jog. But if you change the CDI and add a stiffer torque spring your Jog will drive fantastic. The front one does at least.

The cracking you see is just casting craze and is very typical... nothing to worry about. I'd suggest buying a cheap impact wrench and a socket or two vs. getting dowsed at a mechanic shop to service your auto. With a fin missing the variator is out of balance and likely will do in a crankshaft bearing or two in time. Hoca makes good quality trans parts at reasonable prices. Or if you wanted to "cheap-out" you could grind away another fin 180* across the face to match the broken one. You probably could use a new belt and rollers. Sounds like somebody has had the assembly apart or at least attempted it.
Great looking scooter btw.
Good luck!

Yeah your correct it isn't a 2011 model. I went over it today and noticed that it was a 2010 model but wasn't bought/registered until 2011... I just quickly looked at the compliance plate and the model is a 5SUA-010. I've got this thing up to about 54kmh (33mph) and then it pretty much maxed out. The speed limit here on most main roads is 60kmh (37mph) so I want to be able to do a few little mods to be able to at least get to 60/65kmh easily enough! So any help on the best mods or what not would be much appreciated.
Also do you have any links of where you got your CDI? Thanks

Yeah i might go buy and impact wrench tomorrow considering I'm not too keen on spending huge amounts of money on this thing, but i think i will do some maintenance on this thing and get a new variator, belt, rollers, clutch springs and a stiffer torque spring just to give me some re assurance that she's going to run sweet. Thanks for the help!
