Burial Pipes Burial Pipes wherever you look And here something else. Left a "todays, normal" Jog intake and right a 3YK "older" Jog model intake. Look at that hole size difference. I asked the staff for a measure to measure the hole distance to see if I could use it on my Jog but unfortunately it was a no go.

The 5bm motor uses a different intake bolt pattern than the normal jog because of the angled Reed block

That Jog looks so sick.

moofus02Yeah, you're probably right. The reed block size of a 5BM is larger and therefore it needs a larger intake. This shows how much more power the old Jogs could deliver and why. spaz12That Jog is a real race Jog it has all the war scars. I asked how much they want for it but they said its not for sale. I would love to get that swiss cheese inner panel that looks crazy. Too bad they had it hanged up and not standing on the floor.

The 5bm Reed block I had was huge and had a factory suffer in it

While we are talking about reed blocks. What kind of shape of reeds do I need for that 5BM type? The one square type or the almost separated 2 type? Or do I have to cut them to look exactly like the stock ones?

I don't really know. I don't have one of the engines I just picked up some parts cheep. I was after the stator and flywheel. I think I sent the Reed block to old geek. It had the factory reeds in it. Maybe 190mech could chime in with an opinion

I just looked for those reeds and I don't even find them. But I was searching Minarelli 5bm reeds. I also looked under the jog section at scootertuning and didn't see those.

Maybe I can cut those one piece square shaped ones to match the stock ones or I need to get a carbon sheet and cut them out of there.

Looking at carbon sheets there are all kinds of types available. Thikness: 0.25, 0.30, 0.35, 0.40, 0.45 Which one is the recommended thikness? Or which one is close to the stock reeds? Which maker is preferred? Polini? Malossi?
I don't need really performance from the reeds I just want to avoid damage to the engine if the reeds should break off.

Reed thickness is a topic I haven't figured out yet. I think I read somewhere that cf will wick and fray. If o remember correctly you seal the cut edges with super glue? Not sure but someone will jump in with the answer

For simplicity sake, I would just get the nice block webbike has for the 5bm. I completely understand why you want to get rid of the metal reeds in the stock reed block. However I feel using carbon fiber reeds with the stock reed block creates a problem. My theory is the carbon fiber shatters on the edges due to being slammed on the hard stock reed block. I feel using a rubber or Viton reed Block with carbon fiber or fiberglass reeds is a must.
