I found that "X" RPM more than factory is usually just not true as sometimes the factory springs are ALREADY 1000 RPM or 1500 RPM as is my case it seems.

the polini springs are for the kymco/piaggio scoots but the dimensions are EXACTLY the same as the stock springs so I don't see why they would act differently.

The chart doesn't have any TGB no worries I've already weighed mine. for anyone else the TGB R50X has 8.6g Roller weights (all 6 weighed 52g) also they are 16x13

I think it would help you out ALOT if you got an expansion pipe to remove that low end power and increase top end power.

OMG...... just had a brainwave on how to adjust clutch grab, without buying new springs.

Simple........ to grab later (simulating stronger springs)...... lighten the shoes at the 'flung end', by drilling a hole.
To grab earlier....... drill a hole, and add a steel nut and bolt at the 'flung end'.

I'll work up a more comprehensive post in 2 stroke performance (as it is tuning the clutch), but maybe it should go in Transmission Tech.

Wherever it ends up, I'll edit this post with the link.

Yeah I had that idea but thought it was too much work. Really I think a pipe would be easier and benefit you more

Yes, I know where you're coming from..... but check out my post in performance...... the drill mod gives us total control, allowing removal of weight, and adding weight.

No cost... no delays..... no mistakes.......just tuning!

Anyway... great minds think alike

On another note:
The engine seems to be loosening up.
i don't think the rebore was properly 'run in'.

It's now revving above 8k, whereas before it was crawling to 8k.
With the new gearing, the emphasis is on easy speed...... it feels really good.
No more frantic revving, getting nowhere.

If I can mod the clutch to grab just that bit earlier, I'll be able to also just reduce the gearing a touch, say with 10g rollers...... regaining the acceleration kick, whilst also taking advantage of the PHBN carb mod, to power through the higher gearing.

Current carb PHBN carb settings are:
Idle Jet: 34
Main Jet: 105

By increasing the idle jet from 32 to 34...... launch has improved.
By increasing the main jet from 102 to 105..... higher RPM is achieved with a happy engine.

From the crappy non-runner scoot I acquired...... we are now seeing real progress.

Hmmmm!..... The question is absolutely spot on...... and sparks what needs to be discussed 
The answer can only be subjective........ but isn't it always?

I'd dropped to 102 when fitting the airbox.
The air inlet was then expanded..... and I kept a close eye on plug colour.

Plug colour was fine, but there were signs of overheating (Usual stuff - engine power, smell, heat).
This should have been indicated on the the plug colour, but it wasn't.

(This really screwed me up, and I wasn't ready to discuss this prob, cos we were busy working on the CVT)

With air idle adjustment, there are always (?) two idle jets that will work.
From an extreme tuning perspective, one is usually better than the other.

Bear in mind I'm running an A13 on notch 5....... so at tickover, the needle is still on its land (the taper isn't far away, but....).

So the background is, that I was thinking of bumping up fuel delivery, on the idle circuit, to provide initial feed for a 'whack open throttle' scenario..... you know...... now that I'm a touch overgeared at launch.

It can help overcome the suction delay...... a bit like old pressure sensitive carbs that would squirt raw fuel into the carb.
..... and what with concerns of over-heating (even though plug colour was bonny)....... I decided to up both jets.

To be honest, my attitude had been to leave carb tuning until we'd got the CVT right (hence why I seemed to just drop this bombshell, without recourse to discussion)...... but...

I have to say...... both jets worked.

Launch is better...... it's..... surely not as aggressive as it was, but honestly..... I can barely remember that, because the launch is so good now.
Increasing the idle circuit feed has just tweaked the launch.
I'm now able to go big at launch, and the bike responds....... and then I'm flying..... a real sweet sensation..... last ride of the night felt really good.

Main jet..... as per my previous post...... the overbored barrel is definitely loosening up....... but the main jet increase must have played it's part.

I hit 8.5k today, and there is more to come.

To be honest..... today I was just enjoying the mods...... what a slack bastard..... I haven't even checked the plug yet.
Who cares... I'll do it tomorrow....... it was going so well.

I went for a spin with my son.... him on the MX50, and me on the scoot.
I pulled a frigging launch wheelie on gravel, when the tyre finally bit solid ground

I wasn't expecting that.... TG maintained balance and direction

I could no longer take him on initial acceleration...... but could pull alongside.
That's the 2g on the rollers.
Drop a gram, and I think I'll have him 

No over-heating, no power loss.
It could be a gasket...... but would a jump from 102 to 105 cover that?
Maybe.

Anyway.... for the time being... that's my answer to your question.
It's definitely better all round.
Why wasn't the plug white before I made the changes....... I don't know.
That's the mystery.

I think I was over oiling the fuel, and this was impacting upon the plug deposits.
I was pre-mixing as well as using the oil tank auto-lube system.
This is a habit from running the AM6....... most tuners doing this.

I don't believe it is needed with the FE53 - I note the oil feed pipe is larger than on the AM6.

I therefore filled up with straight 95 the other day.
Here is the plug colour....... pretty spot on, but note the accumulated oil around the side walls (the pic can be zoomed in).
I think this was masking a lean condition...... that I picked up on through other signs.

curious, what ratio were you premixing at?

personally I would scrap the oil injection and just premix.

7.5ml/Litre plus autolube.

Not excessive, but by running pure auto lube, the plug is in better condition.

Post Tune Assessment

We had a bonfire tonight

You can picture the scenario...... pork, and potatoes, griddling on the embers...... early fresh garlic, and rosemary akimbo, and red wine to ease the passage.

WTF has this got to do with 'troubleshooting the FE53'?

For me.... this is the best time to ride the scoot.

Forgetting something...... "I'll go"...... and the bike feels so nice...... struggling not to give it throttle to surge forwards, with the warm evening air washing over you.

Moments like this, are the time to assess your tune.

I don't think it matters if you've not gone for a BBK......... the question is...... have you got your motor nicely tuned.
If you have.... then, when you are in the zone.... the bike is with you.

That's what it felt like tonight..... and it's been working up to this, ever since the last mod.

What a great community experience it has been.... taking the scoot from a non-runner with no brakes, and a shagged carb..... to a bike that just loves to surge forwards.

Will people try the 'lead weight clutch mod'?
I don't know.
It seems like a lot of effort, yet....... it's doable.

I think the carb mod was key to opening up the value for the clutch mod.

You really need to get a carb on your motor, that can feed the engine with the correct packets of fuel and air.
The PHBN 16 was a tour de force, but only by chance....
...because I had it available..... I was so lucky!

It perfectly matched the FE53 ports and exhaust (given a nifty choice of needle and jets ).

For me, it highlights the obsession with numbers.......... like as if a larger number is always going to be better.

With the carb right, the clutch was tuned to bite at the beginning of power delivery, allowing us to tune the variator to 10.5g rollers.
..... great launch, good acceleration.... and power in hand.

Overall:

I think that, having taken it from a non-runner, to a nicely tuned runner..... we can say that, for the moment, the troubleshooting is over.

Hey Guys...... shortly after this post, I had my scooter nicked.
It was a painful experience..... for those that followed the story from acquisition to tuned status.... you can imagine how it hit me.

The carb mods gone...... the added lead weight to the clutch shoes gone.
TG I made that sequence of videos...... so at least the work lives on (and continues to get views).

I didn't have the heart to keep posting.
Anyway.... time heals all wounds....

For the Cops...
I created specific photos, pointing out how the scoot could be uniquely identified.
A folder of images.

They told me straight..... forget it..... it's gone.
The thief will have fenced it immediately, and probably got no more than €15 for it (cash in hand).
All those mods........... and to know that even the gypsies will have realised that it couldn't be resold.

I just had to shut it out, and get on with life.
Plus I had nothing more to say..... I was no longer an owner of a scoot.
The big grin of my last post... gone.
(quite hard reading that post, cos I remember it plainly).

Anyway, after a while, I decided to wrap up the PHBN/VA Needle Carb Fuel Mapper™.

I couldn't get it to work with Open Office.odt
It lacks some of the features of Excel.

Even Excel has limitation when pushed like I've pushed it.
It needs Excel 2007 upwards.

Labeling of the fuel delivery curves remains impossible.
however, hovering over the curve does identify it, so for personal use it is fine.

I use Snagit to create the screen shots.
amazing program, and records screen video.

Anyway..... I decided to let it go into the wild.
Regardless of the fact that it took months of development, I don't think it is a commercial proposition.
let's face it..... I made it for myself.

I figured, that I'd simply let it go for a nominal price of €12..... and presume that if anybody bought it.... for that price, they'd tell somebody to buy their own copy (if somebody was begging).

like I said.... I made it for myself.
I could mod it to work for the PHBG...... but it is such a simple carb, and with only 3 frigging notches on the needle (what!)
The program was fundamentally created for 5 notches.
That was an error on my part....... cos now there is a shit load of fundamental programming to mod it to 3 notches.

As I don't own a PHBG, and I do not expect many people to want to experiment with needle tuning..... the PHBG version may remain a project in abeyance.

So...... from a perspective of just putting it out there, so that other like minded individuals can benefit... it's done.
I've made it available on an AM6 forum that I've posted on.
I figured I should also make it available here, even though I've no longer got a scoot.

So.... if everybody is happy...... I'll make a post outlining it's features.

Perhaps one or two people will use it, and we can discuss how it is being used.
it will certainly give us something to talk about.

No probs if this doesn't fit with the scheme of things.
Like I said..... it is primarily about putting it out there for like minded individuals.
