Yeah it's a 3/4in-1/2in threaded reducer. I think it's a "shark bite" type thing. It was cheap. Without it it's SUPER loud. Like, give you a headache loud.

I also lowered the front end 1.2in. I bought some pvc caps and washers to preload the front shocks, but they were too big. Going to get the right size tomorrow. It was dark so I'll snap some more pics later.

Nice simple, light, and cheap exhaust solution. Sounds good.

Thanks 90GTVert! I also threw on an open filter today. Didn't like it. It seems like the stock airbox actually flows more air. I think the filter I had was too small. Had kind of a boggy/slow take off. And it took longer to get up to speed, which top speed suffered as well. So I put the stock airbox back on.

You need to re-tune (upjet) the carb with an open filter.

But wouldn't a lean jetted condition give me bogging at WOT? This was only at take off. Everything else was normal. Or would I need to upjet the pilot as well? I have a #90 main in already. Pilot jet is stock.

The pilot jet, needle, and main jet all work together in your carb to deliver fuel. The pilot jet delivers fuel at idle and a little bit into 1/8th throttle usually- then, when you twist the throttle the cable is lifting the tapered needle up out of the main jets' hole and more and more fuel go by as the taper of the needle comes up out of that hole. At WOT the cable is fully retracted and the needle is pulled up out of the way uncovering the full sized hole in your mj to let the max amount of fuel go by. So, your main jet is not only just for WOT- it's working with the taper of the needle through most of the throttle range. You wouldn't need to upjet the pilot- just the main jet. Then adjust needle position (if it's adjustable) to finish off the tune and get everything dialed in just right through the whole throttle range!

Cool thanks niz for that explanation! I'm a FI guy so these carbs are new to me. But it's really simple.

So I flushed and refilled the front forks with some quality fluid and put in some spacers today and man what a difference! It feels fantastic. The shocks were way too soft from the factory. When I went to start her up for a test ride, there was some crazy surging and it wouldn't stay on unless I had the idle mix screw completely out. I thought I was going mad as I had only touched the front end. Turns out the vacuum line to the petcock had split at the intake manifold. Easy fix. Drove me nuts for about 15 minutes though.

Just a question, when measuring for the bike speedometer should I measure the circumference of the tire or the wheel? Or should it be wherever the magnet is on the wheel?
EDIT: nvm i just did some reading and I'm pretty sure i'll have it calibrated correctly tomorrow.

I know you said nevermind, but just in case it's of use you'd measure the tire circumference. I've always found it easiest to start off with a number based on the tire size and then compare to a GPS to fine tune it. I'm using 1327mm on my Trail Tech for the stock front tire on my TaoTao to get the GPS and Trail Tech to match speed/distance.

Took a lot of guess work out. Now I just have to confirm with a GPS.
