Well, i decided to ask scoot-tuning what the difference between the short and long cases that they carry, and they said that other then the swingarm length and the brake shoes sizes there is no difference between the 2 component wise. they also sent me this picture as an example. they also said that they have run into this situation before were people only have a short case and want a long case, they said that cost wise its cheaper and more cost effective to switch the left crank cases instead of buying a new engine. So im deffintly going to buy the parts and convert it myself. if the picture is a good indication then ill be good to go. and since the left crank case that they sell has all the bearings, bushings and seals installed it will save me some time and money. the only thing that ill have a little trouble with is seperating the 2 cases as im not sure what tool ill need to split them. Ill be looking it up and see if i do have the tool or not.

Okay, so i looked up what ill need to convert the engine, and all ill need is the started clutch socket. And i can borrow one from a friend that has one, or i can get an old socket and make one myself. i have a gear puller that i can use for the kick start gear, so once i get the parts and a few hours to spare ill have a long case 157QMJ.

Due to bills and a need for some groceries, I was limited to spending $100 on the scooter, so I bought the left case and some gaskets. By my next paycheck I will be able to purchase the rest of the parts and the rear rim.

I figure its about time to give this post thread some new life. i am going to continue my Gy6 swap, and convert the engine into a long case engine. since my last post i ended up loosing the long case that i had bought for my engine, considering a cinderblock landed on it and it has since gone for scrap. and i lost what gaskets i had for it. i am going to redo my gy6 swap because as much as i love my 2 stroke build, its just been one problem after another getting it to run right. so, im going back to the gy6. now since i am redoing the swap ill have to buy a new left crankcase side, a CVT cover, gaskets, bearings, seals and bushings, and probably a new mount if the one i have is beyond saving. i also have to order a 12" rim, a 130/70-12 tire and brake shoes as well. now all these parts except for the bushings, left crankcase and cvt cover i can get from scootertuning.ca and scoot-tuning.com. scoot-tuning.com used to carry all the parts i need, but they have since stopped stocking these parts. so for the bushing, crankcase and cvt cover ill have to resort to Ebay. It not my idle place to order parts, but its the only place i can find the parts i need that wont cost me $200 CAD per part. so far i have made some progress with taking apart the engine to get it ready for the conversion. here are a couple of pics. and heres my bin of parts so far. more news and update to come later.

New update, just ordered the long case left crankcase for my GY6, as well as a full long case gaskets set and a oil seal set.
after that on my next paycheck i will be purchasing a CVT cover for the long case engine, as well as a bushing set, gearbox bearing set, and a new pickup/trigger coil.
then after that, will be the 12" or 13" rear rim and tire.

New Update: The bottom end and the top end of the engine is back together, the timing is set and the valve lash is set. i also found the one bearing i needed and the gearbox is all together and the CVT is put together. i am waiting on the cvt cover, pickup coil and the bushing and the engine will be completely converted from a short case to a long case engine. then all i have left to get is a new throttle cable, brake shoes and a rear wheel. i did manage to find a rear wheel for my engine for a decent price, so next paycheck i will be getting it and the other parts i need and my swap will be done. here is a link for the rim. wheel

Okay, i have decided not to purchase the wheel is the previous link that i had posted, but instead go a somewhat different route. I have been reading some of the ruckus forums about rear wheel hubs for the gy6 and i have found one on ebay that seem like a very viable option. linkI will be saving myself a fair amount by purchasing the hub, and it will allow me to mount the engine to my frame in a way that doesnt involve me changing the rear shock mounting point on the frame. but then theres the issues of finding a rim with a 4x160 bolt pattern. mind its easy enough to find rims with a 4x160 bolt pattern because a large number of atv rims have that same bolt pattern, but with using a atv rim would affect the way the scooter will handle because most atv rims are at least 12x6. of course one way to help with this is rather easy and not that expensive. it is to machine in new mounting points on the hub for a smaller bolt pattern to the options for rims would be almost endless. i have also read from another forum that these hubs are VERY robust and have alot of meat to them, so machining in new bolt holes is a very viable option. so by getting this hub, buying a $27 12x4 trailer rim, and machining new bolt holes and using the 130/70-12 tire thats on my 2 stroke, ill have saved around $40 give or take.

new update, my pickup coil came in for my gy6, and yesterday i ordered the rear from above, as well and the brake shoes for the gy6 and a new throttle cable. i also ordered a intake bundle from nibbi carburetor that had the intake manifold and a S intake pipe and carb adapter. i also found a couple of rims that are 10x5 with a 4/156 bolt pattern and a 2+3 offset that i can use with the hub. i will have to buy a new tire, but its better then having to modify my stock shock mount for the gy6 to work with the frame. that way if i ever decide to go back to the 2 stroke i can without having to move the shock mount again.

Picked up my rim today. and it only cost my $20. the guy had quite afew 10x5 rims, but he just happened to have a 12x6 rim with a 2+4 offset so i nabbed that instead, so now i gotta see how bad my 130/70-12 tire will fit the rim. if its too stretched ill have to get a wider tire, so if i can find a 150/90-12 tire that would fit perfect and my rear tire outside diameter will be almost the same.

got the tire all mounted to the rim, and it holds air. i got to admit that it looks pretty good. now i know why people do it to their ruckus's. Also my bushings came in and i got them installed.

newest update, My brake shoes, throttle cable and hub came in today. now i can begin my swap. but first i have to elongate the bolt holes in my 12x6 rim a little so the hub's bolts will fit. but one thing ill say about this hub is that its real BEEFY!
