I picked up a completely stock Kymco ZX50 Super Fever a while back, and I have really enjoyed riding it. The seat is very comfortable even after a 2-3 hour ride. It is also the most stable scoot I have ridden so far. Top speed is around 40 mph which is not bad, but I am a big guy, and I want a little more umph! This is my first time working on this motor platform. From the little info I have found, this Kymco SC10 motor is a clone of the Honda AF16 motor. Most of the parts for the Honda Elite SA50/Dio are also listed as fitting the Kymco vertical. I also have a Honda Elite in rough shape, but I have not done anything with it yet, it needs a lot of work. I picked up a 48mm BBK and a V8 pipe from Autotech355 on ebay, and a Stage 6 intake and a unrestricted CDI from Scooter Attack. Since I have have the weekend off I decided to get started on some upgrades this evening. The scooter came apart fairly easy, and surprisingly the cylinder was not that hard to get to. I cleaned up the sealing surfaces, and put the base gasket on to have a look. The carters match up great but WTH where is the boost port? I also noticed some other strange things. The intake ports look very small considering this is supposed to be a decent platform for upgrades. It kinda looks like the Stage 6 intake will be a waste unless some porting is done. I decided to just slap the cylinder on anyway and see what happens, but when I tried to seat the cylinder something was holding it off about 1mm. It turns out the cylinder skirt is hitting that strange looking webbing just above the crank, you can see it in the base gasket picture above. I gave up for now, tomorrow I will likely trim the cylinder skirt so it will seat, or I will put the stock cylinder back on. Here is a picture of the cylinders side by side.

Oldgeek, I had two of the Daelim Cordi's and the engines were exactly the same as what you have there- Honda AF16 clone from what I understand... Anytime I saw parts for the Daelim Cordi engine they "also fit" Kymco ZX50. A great platform to work from!

Cool, Yeah I just found the difference between the 16 and the 18 is the size of the boost port. Apparently they make a cylinder for the AF16 with a small boost port, but supposedly you can use a cylinder for the 18 on the 16 without a problem. I was trying to just slap this one on, but it looks like it will not be quite so easy.

Thanks for the links! I don't want to split the cases yet so I will be leaving the cases stock for now. Maybe I will pull the motor off of the Elite and start planning for the porting. I have a Polini Corsica BBK and a Phongeer short pipe ready for a build sometime in the distant future.

So far today, I trimmed the cylinder skirt so the cylinder would seat. I also put the piston in and did a test fit to see where the piston ends up at BDC and TDC. However I could not turn the crank to BDC, The piston was hitting the webbing that is just above the crank wheels. So I had to do just a little trimming on the piston skirt to get some clearance.
BDC looked ok with the piston crown just below the transfers. At TDC the piston was about 1 mm below deck height, so I took the base gasket out and TDC looked a little better. I cleaned everything up, and sealed the cylinder base with grey motoseal no gasket, and I used couple coats of copper spray on the head instead of the supplied head gasket. Torqued the cylinder to 15 ft lbs.
I was going to use one of the CT intakes on this build, but I could not find anything laying around that would allow me to mount my 19mm Dell clone carb on the CT intake. So I decided to use the Stage 6 intake I was saving for another build. It came with an inlet made just for the Dells and fits like a glove. I lucked out on the throttle cable, I was able to use the stock cable after carefully cutting the lip off of the 90 bend that was holding the screw top cap for the stock carb on, then I just drilled the top of the dell cap out a bit and pressed the 90 bend in. The cable was almost to short, but there was just enough adjustment left in the cable to make it barely long enough.
I plan on going back to the warehouse a little later and hopefully get it fired up. It is hot over there, I wish it would rain for a while to cool things off but it don't look like we will get any for a while.

I only had a few things to wrap up before firing it up.
I installed the V8 pipe, and amazingly it fit like a glove. Perfect alignment even for the mount, not even a washer was needed.
Not having any idea where to start with jetting, I put a 40 PJ , and a 96 MJ along with a 60 slide, and a W6 needle (I think). As usual I struggled with adapting some type of filter/air box. I finally settled on an orange lawnmower filter, press fit on stock intake pipe I pulled from an old airbox. It will likely not be permanent even though it looks kinda cool. At least it allowed me get the motor running tonight.
To my surprise it fired right up. I set the idle, and fiddled with the mixture screw, but ended up leaving it turned all the way in. It pulled pretty good on launch and the front got light. After a few passes to make sure it was not terribly lean, I could not resist and went WOT for a bit, GPS said 49.24 mph. I went back to the shop and it was a little hot, so I put a 46 PJ, 100 MJ and moved the clip on the needle from 1 notch away from the bottom, to the very bottom notch. The next run told me the PJ was now way too big, and possibly the MJ is too big also.
That is it for tonight, hopefully this week I can get it tuned enough to take a long ride. It has been a bit of a bummer not having anything but a stock 50cc to ride, except for the 70cc Vino, but I cant ride it long because it kills my hips. I did take the Vino out last night since my riding buddy bailed out on me. I had fun pulling the front wheel up, and messing with all the tourists on the rental scoots.
That my friends, NEVER gets old!

Where is the boost port?? I'm kinda confused at how it works on that engine??? You and me both! Apparently in stock form it barely has a boost port. I did not want to split the cases to grind and match the ports yet so I left it as is. I have no clue how the size of the boost port affects performance. To confuse matters even more, I have seen boost ports of widely varying sizes on similar cylinders. Possibly someone who knows can fill us in? I remember one build going on here that had a small boost port, and the guy also filled a lot of empty space in the cases with epoxy, I guess in an attempt to raise Primary Compression, whatever that is. Lol

That thing will be a beast. especially in your hands. Naw, I just sort of slapped this one on, if it rips well it will be mostly luck! I was going to check a few things like squish, and compression but when I ran into a few problems, I said to myself screw it, if it runs, it runs. I really just wanted to see what the inside of one of these looked like anyway.
