Tuning can be so challenging! I have been through so many CVT setups it is crazy. I can put in 6.43 gram rollers and get 54mph @ 8400 RPM. I can put in 6.06 gram sliders and get 53 mph @ 9250 RPM. I think I like the response of the heavier weights, as the powerband seems to be at a bit lower RPM on these motors.
I have a question on jetting. Is it correct thinking a slightly larger MJ is needed for the higher RPM setup?
I was using a 99 MJ on the 8400 RPM setup, but decided to switch to a 101 MJ for the 9250 RPM setup.
Most of my setups have been in the 8400 RPM range, and the variator has been consistently a little to hot to handle for a minuet using the 99 MJ.
I guess this thing is trying to tell me it is out of gear.

Maybe its the cylinder/ pipe combo's power band... When I switched to a PG short from the stocker I went from 8g weights to 5g weights in my Koso variator, the power band went way higher in the rpms after installing that PG.. I really need to get a tach and temp guage for my bikes. I been doing all my tuning by ear and feel up to this point lol.

I have been thinking about slapping the PG short I have on it to see what it will do. I know what you mean about a tach and temp gauge. I have a tach, but I still have not broken down and bought a temp gauge, despite swearing I was going to!

Final drive ratio is about 10.7:1
I have not been able to find up gears for this thing as of yet.

What is the exact year make and model? I will look around and see if i can find some for you. 2005 Kymco, Super Fever ZX50 I found some Malossi primaries on feebay that look like they may fit I may pick up, and SA has 17/51 primaries that also look like they may fit. Thanks, for the help

I lucked up the other night, amazingly I found a spare motor for this scoot on feebay at a reasonable price. I broke a rule I imposed on myself to never buy from a new seller on feebay, but I feel comfortable after emailing the seller so hopefully it will work out this time. It is a 2003 and described as recently running but could use a top end, so it is for parts only. It appears to be complete and nothing broken that I can see. The mount is even included so that is a plus. I dont really need anything but the cases, gears, stator, flywheel, and CVT cover.

Hold on to those fan shrouds, they are hard to source from anywhere else and people often look for them.

So I just recieved word that the AF16 gears indeed do not fit. However, I was also informed that you can run AF05E primaries for a final drive ratio of 6.89:1. He also said there were some a/m gears out there before but they can be really hard to find.

Those AF05E primary gears make for a tall final drive! I hope the set of NOS malossi primary gears I have coming from feebay will fit this scoot. If they dont, at least I have options now.

6.89 is very tall. So... Hows about a 125cc LC build?

6.89 is very tall. So... Hows about a 125cc LC build? That would be nice! But pretty expensive. $400 for a cylinder kit, $300-400 for a scorpion exhaust, another $100-200 for radiator & waterpump. Now a 125cc AC kit for $300 may be doable, still need that $400 scorpion exhaust though.

It looks pretty good, and complete except the mount that is in the picture is not on the motor. I emailed the seller and told him I really need it, and am willing to split the cost of shipping if he will send it. Even if I never get it, I did ok on the deal.

Over the last couple days, I have power-washed the spare motor, and disassembled the motor for inspection. Unfortunately some time in its past for some reason the cases were split, apparently by a neanderthal. It looks like they used screwdrivers to pry the case halfs apart, then had to make a paper gasket to get the cases to seal. Also since one of the crank bearings just falls out of the small case half, I suspect they sanded the case out where the bearing fits so they could get the cases back together. In the process they also scarred up the crank where seal rides on one side, which does not really matter because I plan to get a mini stroker crank for it anyway. I am puzzled about the cranks for sale that will supposedly work with this motor. The stock 41.4 stroke crank has a 73.5 mm diameter. The 43.2 stroke mini stroker crank has a diameter of 74.7 mm, and the 52.6 full stroker crank has a diameter of 79 mm. There is enough room in the cases for installing the mini stroker crank, but there is no way the full stroker crank will fit in these cases, there is not nearly enough meat in the crank web area. Possibly the full stroker crank will fit in the genuine Honda AF16 motor, but not these Kymco clones.
I also pulled the gearbox apart to see what is there. Primary gears are 13/40 secondary are 13/45 for a final of 10.65:1, not bad I guess which is good, since gears for this motor are nowhere to be found. The 15/44 malossi primary gears I got from feebay are supposed to fit, but the hole in the pressed on gear is 19mm where the hole in the stock gear is 14mm. It does not really matter anyway, the 15/44 gears would only bring the final to 10.15:1, which is such a small change, I doubt I would even notice. My hopes of using gears to get this scooter past 60 mph are crushed now.Lol!

After talking with the fine folks over at hondaspree forum, I have decided to abandon the effort to make this scoot a 60+ mph scoot. The gearing is just not available for it. I would likely have to make it rev past 10.5K to get to 60 mph, and that is something I want to avoid. I will just continue tweaking it a bit, and be happy with reliable 50 something mph scoot.
Looks like I will be fixing up the near basket case of a scoot 94 elite I have at some point. I am just not thrilled about 10" wheels at high speeds. I already have the Vino, 55 feels FAST! LoL
