I pulled the rear wheel today and took it to the scoot shop so they could put the Michelin power pure SC tire on. The original tire is a 120/70 I put a 130/70 in its place. It was a tight fit, but after 30 minutes and deflating it I finally got the splines lined up on the wheel and it slid into place. I still say one of the best scoot upgrades is a decent set of tires.
I also had time to rejet the carb a bit and take it on a longer ride. With a 42 PJ and a 98 MJ I think I am really close. It is pretty good off the line, just a slight dead spot in the middle due to the wrong needle I think, and the top end is great. I have not even touched the CVT yet. I am going to wait till I have a chance to double verify the top speed I hit with it so far before I post it, but if it holds, it will be as fast as any scooter I have done so far.
I just got a tach almost completely installed and will be interested to see what RPM's it is turning. I don't think the RPM's are really high around 9K 9.5K ? I want to ride it some more tonight hopefully, but I am on call and I have to go fix some tourists A/C first!

We have a lot going on at work, and scoot time has been short lately. To top it off, my Galaxy S3 phone crapped out on me and you know how that can be a PITA. I lost the pictures I took of the air filter I rigged up so I will have to take some more. The orange lawn mower filter is quite loud, and I have grown to love it for now! The tune is really coming along, and GPS tells me I have a top speed of 54.8 mph so far.
This scooter is a blast to ride! It handles well and pulls like mad with this setup. It is easily the best scooter I have ridden so far.

I am not on call for work this week so I can get some scooter time in! Tonight I installed some stuff I got for the CVT. I put a Phongeer aluminum fixed half pulley on the variator and also a ramp plate they sent with it that has slightly steeper ramps. I also put some slightly lighter rollers in. There was a total of 45.5 grams of rollers in it, I dropped down to 43.5 grams. My butt dyno told me I had a little better takeoff, and mid pull. The GPS told me I lost about .8 mph on the top end. I believe there is a shorter boss for the variator I need to get. I also noticed quite a bit of outer rear pulley not being used. Possibly a longer belt is needed. While I had the CVT cover off, I poked some vent holes in it. Hopefully it will help cool the CVT down a bit. I took a picture with my temporary phone, as you can see the camera is krap!

Tuning is progressing well. The carb is almost perfect, and the new variator has really improved RPM control. The GPS shows a top speed of about 55 mph but continuous WOT is more around 49 - 52 reliably. I seem to have hit the wall with the top end with me riding this scooter. 55 mph has been pretty much the regularly obtainable speed for all my builds so far. It seems I can get any decent setup to 55 mph, but anything more stays just out of reach LoL! I would likely reach the 60 mph level if I would stop jumping from project to project, or loose a few pounds I have a question I am going to post about gearing in a new thread. I am not really understanding what is going on with the CVT. The stock variator would take me to 55 @ 9400 RPM. The new variator also gets me to 55, but does a much better job of doing it along the way and the RPM is only 8400. I will definitely be trying lighter weights in the vari, there is more speed in this thing, I just gotta find it.

I tried at least 5 different setups tonight, including different weights and a 36 mm drive boss. top speed is still 55 at best. The shorter boss has given me full travel on the outside of the variator now.
I am trying to find a slightly longer belt for it because with the fixed pulley off, the belt rests against the boss but still has almost a 1/4" of travel left to go on the rear pulley. A longer belt should improve launch, and may even help top end according to what I have read so far. Current belt is supposedly 732 x 18.5 x 28 I can get a 743 x 18 x 30 from Malossi. Does anyone know if that belt may help?
Another thought is gearing. I have been meaning to check and see what the final drive ratio is. Hopefully I will remember to check tomorrow. I feel certain higher gearing is needed. I need to find out if this Kymco motor uses the same gears as the Honda Elites? There are many choices for gearing if it does.

That will be a waaaaay longer belt im sure,, but hey if it doesn't work that's a good reason to buy an OR rear pully!!! I'd say buy the belt and give it a go!!!!

I'd think the 11mm change may work out alright. You have mentioned friends at a scooter shop before. Any chance they have a worn down 150cc belt around? Some of the 125-150s used a 743 20 30 so an old one may give you a pretty good idea of what you'd be getting without buying the Malossi if you are lucky enough to get hooked up with one.

Polini 248.002 Is what I use. IDK know the dimensions but they work great for me... Sorry I know that doesnt help. However the gears are the same as AF16!! So lets get you in the 70mph club!!
edit** I just saw that one of my parts suppliers now has 7.5:1 gears available, maybe you can get to the 80mph club!!

I found a malossi 6111153 belt for $25 shipped on ebay so I ordered it. the dimensions are 738 18 28, possibly a little too close to stock, but the price was right.

I found the 248.002 Polini belt's dimensions listed as 645-14.9-30, If that is correct that belt is a no go for my Kymco. I hope you are right about the gears, but I have my doubts there too. I have a set of 16/42 (9.1:1) for the elite, they look nothing like what I see in the Kymco parts breakdown, but I guess you can never tell until you actually open it up. 7.5:1 Those are some tall gears! I would like to make it to a solid 60 mph for sure, maybe even 70 mph. But I doubt I would go for 80, not likely with a 300lb payload anyway!
