Spent 3 hours on the dyno today (don't even ask how much that cost!). I can say that it isn't CVT related, and nor is it ignition. My attempts at jetting were way off as there is something strange going on. One revelation was that it revs away fine with the pipe off but as soon as it is fitted again it stops working again. I'm sure you're now thinking that the pipe has been blocked by debris - but it isn't I'm going back down in the morning with the C16 to try, if it does work I will be very bemused.

Are the folks at Shiny helping for this or are you just buying dyno time? Just wondering if they had any insight on the issue since they tune these daily. That is quite strange.

They tell me what to do and I do it (''i.e. drop the needle down a notch while I adjust the clutch''). Both Shiny (AKA Gary) and Chris (the resident mini-moto expert) were in today, so I think £100 was a good deal for 6 man hours and dyno time. Even heard a completely un-muffled 2T at 13K? It's unearthly loud, the loudest think I've ever heard. I'm heading back down for 9am tomorrow, didn't get home till 8:45 today.

I put the City 16 in the freezer last night, as I didn't really want to buy another one if it does work with it. It worked

WOW!The C16 ran better than the R1200?

WOW!The C16 ran better than the R1200? With the R1200 it wouldn't go into the powerband under load. The C16 gives better low end power, so it will get up into the powerband by itself. There seems to be something causing a loss of low end power, as it still isn't right with the C16. I suspect the timings on the cylinder differ from the old one, I'll check when I've finished lunch.

Sounds like the transfer durations are too high...

I did a port map of the old cylinder and measured the durations, I got:
Ex: 200* Transfers: 139.5* Boost: 139.5*
Seems high to me? But obviously it worked.
The measurements are Exhaust 19.2mm from TDC and Transfer & Boost 29.2.

The above durations are incorrect, I messed up the program by missing off the squish setting. The old cylinder has an exhaust duration of 194* and a port height to TDC of 19.8mm. The new (supposedly identical cylinder) has a duration of 202 and a height of 18.5mm. That's an incredible 1.3mm difference

Be sure and check the transfer durations, that'll make more difference than 8* exhaust change..Possibly skim the cylinder base to regain the proper durations..

I'm not too sure about the 194* for the old cyl, that's from memory. I am however very sure that the ports are in different places, I checked with calipers, measuring the port map and using calipers to measure it on the scoot with the head off. If I skimmed it to correct the port timings I would have about minus 0.7mm squish  The transfers are out by the same amount, all the ports are further up the barrel than they should be.

The head will need to be recut to give proper squish clearance.Thats a common trick...

That would destroy the o-ring groove, as it borders the edge of the bore. I'm going to try and get it replaced by the retailer.

This is the port map I made and sent to them. I've been asked to phone back tomorrow morning so they have a chance to check it against their other S6 racing cylinders. I was mistaken, it's just the exhaust port with the wacky timings.

Well, I used the scoot to get to college and back today. It's held up well, if a little odd to ride. It's got two power bands, one at 9k and another at 11.
I should be getting a new cylinder mid-week, that way I'll be able to get it setup properly with the R1200. Can't wait :riding:
