This thing is a trooper!
Took it and Sandy's AZ50 (same scoot, different name) away for an out of town club ride, 240+ kilometres of mostly open road riding.
On the morning of the ride I filled them both up with gas and oil and we set off.
At first all was going well, as normal it was pretty much the fastest thing on the ride, faster than a Street Magic 110cc and just able to slowly gain on an FX125.
About 45k in it just suddenly sounded wrong and a split second later the rear wheel locks up and almost puts me in a ditch at around 80kp/h, thankfully the belt started slipping and the wheel freed up enough to not flip me!
After sitting a couple minutes it started straight up and went fine, so I made the call to take it easy and keep going.
A few minutes of easier riding later it locked up again, then started right back up
This pattern of seizing then going again kept up for a while until it locked up so hard I could stand on the kick starter and it wouldn't move.
My mate with the Brown Gyro that I did the top end on ended up towing me for a couple k to the next stop, where I discovered it had freed up again and while not sounding healthy it was at least running so I swapped out the 117mj for the biggest I've got in 4mm which was a 122 and at another riders suggestion added a big splash of oil to the fuel tank.
Away we went again, it was going strong but sounding a bit rich and down on power with the 122 but at least it was going and still pretty quick.
Got a fair few more ks under the belt, until we stopped at a rural pub for lunch and since I'd used a tank of gas I refilled from my can.
2 minutes later I was seized on the side of the road again, as I was dead set on not ending up with it on the trailer at all costs I kept at it for another few k until I caught up with the rest of the group at a servo.
It was here I checked the 2t oil...
Sandy's near stock AZ had used over 1/4 of a tank of oil, mine was still full...
That'll do it!
I'd not added any oil to the tank when I filled up at the pub which explains why it seized again soon after leaving!
So I added another good splash of oil and it was alive again, not running well with the rich MJ and the fact it's been seized over 20 times at this point, but after the first seizure I knew I was up for an engine rebuild anyway so I was going to ride it until it died!!
Got a good distance until I lost my air filter at the top of a large hill and it locked up solid at the bottom of the hill while I was at WOT pulling decent speed!!
That was it, it wouldn't start and without a filter there was no way it was going to go on even if it would start.
So onto the trailer of shame it went
I ended up being chucked the key to the brown Gyro and finished up the ride on that.
Now this should be the end right?
WRONG!
Back at the hosts home I pulled the oil pump off fully expecting to find the plastic pump drive gear completely stripped which is a common Street Magic killer (same engine as Let's).
But nope, the gear was fine, oil is getting to the pump too, so either the pump randomly died or there is something stopping oil getting from the pump to the carb, I'm thinking something managed to get passed the pump and has jammed the tiny little one way valve in the line.
Oh and believe it or not, but it started again... Didn't sound healthy at all but was running well enough to give it a fitting send off!
First burnout it went for a few minutes at WOT before dying and locking up.
Cooled down a minute and managed to pop the tyre and cut out.
We tried to start it a couple times after but that was it, it was dead!
Until this morning when I unloaded it from the van and just out of curiosity whacked an air filter on and gave it a couple kicks...
Pig rich, but after this I whipped the filter off and it's running as strong as ever, even trying to pop wheelies with a shredded flat tyre
I had thought about either going hard out and building up a water cooled engine (possibly attempting a Piaggio swap or something crazy) or just giving up on it and concentrating on the Gyro builds, but with how it just won't die I think it deserves some love!
So I'm going to pull the bore and see what's up and go from there.
Sorry for the wall of text!
Will have a full ride highlight video up at some point too.
