It's an auto replace. I set it up to do that long ago.

Got the variator, crank bearings and seals, and gaskets. I was super excited to get to put the variator on and feel the speed! ....nope. it actually decreased the top speed, shifted well though. So I stopped it to mark the face to see where it rode up to the edge, noticed the variator was wiggling. Pulled it off to find that the back plate slide clips were long gone. I had the cover off the cvt too. So I put a washer behind the back plate, like the stock set up, and the guides from the stock variator. Put it Back together, got almost back to the speeds I was getting with the stock one. Stopped it again and took it back off, the guides are gone again! It didn't even act different though, like they were still there. I walked up the road where I figured top speed was and never found one. I should've waited. The boss drive that's with it wasn't recessed to accommodate the different thicknesses, so it was barely leaving any splines for the front face to mount to. I can't imagine that it has enough room to open the variator enough to give the guides room to fly off so easily. I dunno. Now I need to search up and buy some guides, and try to solve this issue while getting better performance that I should have. Also, the boss is smaller in diameter compared to the stock. So i can't swap them to try... Sigh... Jwhood, @elektry, did you have any problems like this?

Had to dremmel the hoca boss inner diameter down or take electric start gear out to give you room so that it the nut fits on right, mine works great especially on hills i keep a constant speed

I guess I could get rid of the electric start out, but it still seems fishy that the variator is opening enough to sling the guides. I'm worried Thai there would be far too much play in the backside of the variator if I took out the electric start...

I don't have any calipers on hand here at work, well that I can just pick up. There are many around, but not mine. This is built for an ad50, I believe.

Jwhood, youdon't know the diameter of the spline area for the back plate right now, do you? If I can get that measurement before morning I can get the machining guy here at work to recess this boss for me. I have seen you up at odd hours lol

If so do you have the opportunity to measure that spot here in the near future?

Yeah the crank is splined right down to where the variator backplate sits, I can't go measure it until morning though as my workshop is on the other side of town and I can't risk waking up the neighbours there.

I appreciate it. I think I can pull the dimensions from a site that sells them. Or be patient and wait until I go home and get it done Monday night...

I've figured it out. The boss is the same outer diameter as my gy6/super 9 stuff, it's way too small to try to cut the recess out and have any material. So, like jwhood suggested, I think, I'm going to have to trim the boss down to allow for the face plate t to go on all the way to avoid the kick start from hitting it. And the reason my guides are disappearing is because of the 4mm+/- extra travel the variator is getting since it's not sitting back far enough into it. I'll them have to shim between the back plate and the starter gear. Guess I'll be hitting up the hardware store to find some things I can use.
