Looking back, it seems like your starting issue came just after messing with the CVT. Have you checked the bendix? Try loosening the bolts for the CVT cover, just barely. Leave them almost all the way in, but just loose enough that the cover isn't totally stuck in place. Try the starter then. I have had some be picky about spacing. Something as simple as the CVT cover gasket being discarded could change how the bendix functions. Worth a shot at least. If that does it, replace the cover gasket if it's gone or I've used thin washers under the bolts by the bendix before. Well, huh. I didn't think of that. I guess I have a reason to use the gasket that came with my BBK now.

Sorry it was dirty, brother. It came off of a well used scooter case. And that was after I cleaned it up some! Nothing I own stays showroom clean, most doesn't get back to normal clean. Lol. Hope it wasn't a waste for ya! What was the story with your cvt cover and kick start? If that's toast and you can't find a cheap one, I've got one of those as well. I'm not sure if I've left it all assembled, but I have it. That's fine. I got some electric motor contact cleaner stuff and I've cleaned up the armature and housing from the motor you sent me and I'll put it back together tomorrow. When I got the scoot with the stock carb it didn't idle so I had to start it by kicking over as fast as I could. I replaced the carb which fixed one issue, but the CVT cover cracked vertically across the area where the kickstarter was so that didn't work anymore. After a failed JB Weld repair I just chopped the cover with a hacksaw. Did the part over the clutch bell while I was at it. A new CVT cover/kickstarter isn't really on my list because hopefully I'll have the electric start working well. (And with no cover in the way I can always use a drill to start it.)

I didn't work on it yesterday, but today I put the starter back together nice and shiny then put the CVT cover gasket in. Jumped the relay and it fired right up. Went for a quick ride in the cold. It was cold.
EDIT: Got my LED headlight and control clusters. Wiring those up is gonna be fun...

Awesome! So it was the gasket bring gone causing it to bind up?

Awesome! So it was the gasket bring gone causing it to bind up? Yup. The first time I took the cover off most of the gasket just fell off in pieces but there was still bits stuck on around the bolt holes which I guess spaced it out enough but the last time I had the cover off I scraped all those bits off, but then decided getting the new gasket lined up was too much work and just threw it on metal to metal. I guess this caused too much friction on the bendix and it was only able to crank very slowly.

All I did today was do some donuts in the snow, but I was wondering how hard it'd be to make a hybrid scooter. Like, get a small electric motor out of one of those Razor scooters or an electric dirt bike or a Tesla or something and rig it up to aid the engine when it gets power from a small lithium pack under the floor or in the seat bucket or something, then have the engine charge the pack slowly while it's running along with a plug in charger like an all electric car. Give you a bit of a boost.
Not actually planning on doing this, but I was just wondering how hard it'd be to figure out a mounting system and everything.

It might work for the 0-10mph zone in where normally the clutch works and the engine needs to go from idle to tuned clutch speed. I dunno...in theory it works but i would think it's wayyyyy too much hassle to get such a system working properly and remain all the space where you would have to place those batteries.

Okay, so I'm gonna order these and pray they fit. Stock levers aren't meant to have a cluster in between them and the grips, plus the brake lever has the end broken off so hopefully this will fix both those issues. The mirror threads are 10mm on these instead of 8 so I'll order these mirrors to replace the stock ones which I was already planning on replacing due to them not working well with the new handlebar height and just plain being ugly. www.ebay.com/itm/281880959632?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AITwww.ebay.com/itm/252225720311?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2648&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AITGood thing it's winter so shipping from China is fine for me. I have yet to figure out the wiring for the new clusters because I'm lazy. I did solder the brake light wires to the connector from the old one instead of just having the wires twisted and taped, so those should work more reliably now. I'm not gonna bother installing a new fuel gauge or anything, so I had an idea for in case I ever run out of gas. A small bottle for 2t oil or something with Sta-bil-ed gas in it that should be enough to get me home or to a gas station since I don't have plans on ever going very far with this thing.

Last night I installed the headlight (The pic above was just a test, wasn't wired in with everything.) and did donuts in the snow until I fell off. I live in CT and we got like an inch. It mostly melted this morning too.
Brake light doesn't brighten when I'm braking and it has no blinkers. Getting there one LED at a time.

Did a better job on my poor mans performance exhaust. Basically awhile back I used a circle cutty thing on a drill to cut around the tiny exhaust exit pipe and then today I did the plate behind that then drilled some holes in the pipe that bends and stuff. You see what I mean. Also tried a vid with the camera mounted on the luggage rack. Can't see much though. I don't think I waited for it to warm up long enough to adjust the idle because it died at a stop sign in the vid. Also gotta be careful with no blinkers or brake lights. (Can't mount the left cluster with the blinker switch and stuff because the left brake has some weird wide clampy thing and the new ones haven't arrived yet.) The muffler looks pretty ugly with the big hole cut in it but the chrome cap fixes that nicely. Also I turned the GPS speedo on in my phone. After the ride it said my max speed was 49 so either this thing is 5-10mph faster than I thought or my phone is just trying to make me feel better.

Thanks for the details on the mod. Sounds like you got the sound of the aftermarket stuff, without spending $80 and up. It goes quite well. I notice a lot of RPM drop early on in acceleration. I'm guessing you have a torque driver with two angles or some call them dogleg. If so, you might be able to get even quicker acceleration with a straight groove to keep RPM more steady, if you are looking for any more upgrades. Downside may be that it's not as calm while cruising at low speeds.

Downside may be that it's not as calm while cruising at low speeds. I've never gone further than taking off the clutch bell to look at the pads so I've never seen the torque driver. By the way it drops, probably, at least 1-2k revs and loses a significant amount of acceleration I'm pretty sure it has that angled groove thing. So, yeah, new torque driver is definitely on the list. What are some good (cheap) ones?
