Congrats your now free of the 150. I've been following this thread because I want to get rid of mine but your troubles have put me off. Maybe after my knee surgery I'll go for it.

I don't know what was wrong with your 150. I've had three and still own two. I've had 4t and 2t. I've put money into the unrestricted upjetted/tuned Kymco, and while it does peg the speedo (stock) my 150's kill it on torque and both run over 60 easily and are both Chinese. I do not run them like dirt bikes, I'm easy on them, mostly hover near 45-50, and constantly upkeep them. My noname 850$ SunL 150 is almost ten years old. 11500 miles and the only problem I've ever had was I once installed green leds and the leads that touched the exhaust and would make the bike kick and buck killing the power sporadically.
BTW my highly modded stretched FJR13 is fun but I still ride/fix my scooters more.
Perhaps it's like everything. If we take care of what we own, understand what it is and isn't, it'll last. I know you do Brent, I've followed you for two years. (I'm your stalker, jk.)
I enjoyed this thread.

This is the story of my life. Everything I own is slower than everything that everyone else owns. Part of it can be explained by the fact that I'm 300lbs. I have a feeling some of it is that I only use GPS or aftermarket speedos with care in calibration. When new, the 150lb owner got the Roketa up to just over 60MPH tucked, so it can't all be weight. You can see that I went over the engine pretty well. I don't think most are bothering to notch pistons and figure out compression ratios accurately and so on. I worked on a couple for customers in the past and one was definitely more of a runner than this was stock, but I don't know all of the intricacies of the GY6s to know what was different. I've raced a 150 with a similar weight rider on my 2T that had stats more like what most seem to claim from a stock GY6, but he got smoked. This just seems to be my experience in general. I had guys tell me they knew people with fast scooters, and then my fat ass left them when it came time to race. I don't even think any of my scooters are quick/fast either. All Chinese junk with generic parts. BTW, I'm not saying anyone's scoot isn't what they say. I'm just saying when the rubber meets the road I haven't seen it demonstrated that 150s in stock or near stock form are as good as many say. Actually, a friend did have a 150 with 16" wheels that he got up to about 70. That was with a ported head, exhaust, air filter, and tuning. That was also on the highway drafting traffic. When we rode together on a windy day, he could go about 65 with a strong tail wind tucked down which isn't really any different than what my slow one could do.

I believe a set up 2t will smoke a 150. It's just expensive. I've seen a 35 hp 2t--supposed 35hp anyways. It was fast. My scoot is 2018 and has 4 batteries. I'm definitely not saying having a four battery cell makes it faster, or even that it is fast. Three under the seat, one in the normal spot. I also cut vents in the dash. Also, I doubt that made it faster. I keep messing with the one and keep it in my writing room. Dirty front and speedo pic. What's odd is that that gauge is mph and the od is kph. Today I began feeling hesitation above 50. It only h :Das about 100 miles on it. So yeah, Tao Tao is still junk.

Make sure you've got a good fuel supply, carb is clean and main jet clear, and everything around the carb/intake is secure.

Checked valve lash and it was far too tight. Just reset it to .006. Valve clearance on manufactures palte says .006-.008. never heard of so much but I did it .006 in and out. We'll see if the tapping drives me crazy. Intake was also loose. Did I say I hate Taotao? Also cheapy carb is nonadjustable. UGH!!!
