Trying to teach an old dog new tricks…me being the old dog. I bought a cheap, small English wheel on Amazon this week as well as made some progress on my panel beating shrinking/stretching stump. First training session started out just randomly beating on a small sheet of aluminum. As I was beating it into a bowl shape, I noticed that there was an ashtray inside wanting to get out. I don’t smoke (anymore) but a good scooter buddy of mine still entertains the habit so I beat the ashtray out of the sheet of aluminum using my stump, a variety of hammers and this stationery dolly I made from a chunk of RR track. It turned out as good as expected for my first foray into metal beating. I wanted to do something to learn the English Wheel, shrinking and stretching but I wanted to make it easy on myself. I cut the bottom out of a coffee can, cut it to rough shape and then went to town beating it into the shape of a miniature scooter fender. The transitory product looks awfully ugly. …but after some wheeling, it turned out pretty good!

It's amazing how the English wheel can transform sheet metal.

You may need some more work on understanding the heat treatment of steel and aluminum to get the final products right to avoid cracking, stress relief, etc. I think there are reference books on the subjects available, maybe in libraries etc, but probably not Amazon... LOL

Not sure that this totally fits here, but someone will prob have a laugh so...
I got scheduled for carpal tunnel surgery in mid December. Many years of numb fingers and it's only getting worse. So I saw the doc, got a nerve conduction study and then saw the doc again to get approved to schedule. After scheduling, I filled out the pre-registration online.
A woman then called me and said she needed to verify if something is correct and then said I entered 300 pounds as my weight. I said that's correct. She said, "and you're 6ft2?". I confirmed. She said, "OK. I saw the weight and thought maybe you hit the wrong key or something." I just got fat shamed by the surgery center. lol

You just have big bones... Some of us just have different genetics. Some play soccer, some baseball, some basketball, some football, some swim, some run track, some play chess, some race cars, others fence. We are all different.

You didn't get shamed. She shamed the surgery center. Do we see a discussion of bill shaving vs. newspaper here?

Made this gizmo… It’s an engine stand for a 139QMB drive train. I made the rear support that hooks to the shock mount adjustable/replaceable to fit various iterations and case lengths. It will sit nicely on a bench with 4 (hidden) adjustable rubber feet or it will slide over and nest on top of my shrinking stump. Been working on a lot of things lately to make life better and more efficient in my tiny shop.

Yes sir! Build your own is best! I had all the steel and spray paint already in surplus inventory. Cost me $1.20 for a bolt, nut and 2 washers for the rear hinge part (found out a few hours after my trip to the hardware store that these parts were also already in inventory). Looks like it will perform its duties quite well.
