It was probably the biggest Jump I made performance wise. Mine had terrible rollers, and even after an airbox delete, muffler drill, and rejet I was still in th 30mph range because my RPMs were so low. I started cheapest first, and the cost of rollers as well as confusion made it my second mod. A lot of sites made CVT tuning harder than it is. Probably to sell contra springs, honestly. I got a gps verified sustained 43 mph on the way home this afternoon, and I weigh 230 lbs lol. I dont know how much more I can expect, I wonder if CVTs would help any.

Hard to say? Some scooters probably come with decent weight rollers. 43 is pretty darn good. Mine is a commuter scooter, so it gets a lot of variance. I say I do 45 on flats, but it's gotta be a LONG flat. And a decent road, like a smoothed out highway kinda road. A lot of places I do 38 wide open. So long as I sustain 35 I don't sweat it too much. An honest 45 on flats for me is a few times a year when things are in perfect tune, the oil is the right temp, no wind, and I'm paying attention. Ohio's pretty flat but there's almost always a slight up/down making me drop speed or feel like I'm cheating.
Whether it's rear gear, tire size, or parts quality, I've never been close to reguarly doing 45+ on flats like a lot of dudes on here pull.

Final update. Pulled the 47mm kit to install a 50mm. Was still doing 40s no problem, 45 lomg flats. It did have a chip missing from the edge of the piston, but the ring must've been holding compression, cause it was still running great. That was at 26,000km, so that bbk was on for 11,000km of pretty much WOT riding.
I'm moving over to the 50mm thread, best of luck to ya'll. My mileage really went in the crapper since changing. Not sure if I wouldn't preferred sticking with the 47 with a nice ported head and a 20mm carb. Maybe I'll be back one day.

I recently acquired a 2007 wildfire r8 50cc from a friend. It was not running at the time. We tore it apart and found that the piston was burnt up and a leak in the valves. We put a 47mm bbk in and new valves. Ive only drivin it about 20 miles and it seems to accelerate decently quick but I can only top out at about 33mph. We put an all new carb on with 88 jet. Stock exhaust, stock airbox. Any ideas on why it tops at 33. My sister in law tao tao 50 is faster then mine.

baseball... I'd take a look at two things: sliders/variator and belt fit. You might want to check your spark plug for 'lean' as an 88 seems small to me for a main jet for a 47mm. Likely your belt is too short/tight, and doesn't allow for 'full travel' of the variable pulleys(front one getting as large as possible, rear going as small as possible). If the belt is too tight, it can't do that fully. IF the variator is gummed up internally, it may not allow free movement. Don't lube internals, but cleaning is good. tom

Well, I replaced belt and variator. Both didnt look bad but figured id change them out and still only hitting 33mph tops on gps. I aldo checked the spark plug out and it looks like a good caramel color so Im thinking my jet is correct.

i changed a worn belt out too.... and lost speed. The fit of the belt is sort of important. If too short, it will not allow full motion of the movable bits. If too long, it won't have good contact, and will likely slip, again losing power and speed. The new belt I installed seemed too tight when I put it in place. I figured, brand new, and 'of the correct size', should work great in place of this old worn belt. Rong. It felt stiff, and seemed to be tight when first installed, and when used, just seemed as if it was restricting the CVT from working properly. Apparently, it was, as replacing this brand new belt with a used belt 'of the same size' made a discernible difference. tom

Would that cause more air to get in and I need a higher jet or is that normal to just have an open intake hole?

I changed out the main jet to 92 and gained 1 mph with no change in how it rides. Then I jumped up to a 96 and still staying steady. I cant seem to find the perfect tune. No black smoke or anything not sure if I jetted too high or not high enough.

What are you trying to do? There is only so much power you can get out of one of these small screamers. If it runs well, and doesn't seem to be running hot, nor boggin, nor stalling, nor having cold start problems, and it has reasonable acceleration and idle, what more do you want? You can tune the carburetion daily, and will get different results. Ambient temperature, relative humidity, barometric pressure, and the wind all affect how it rides from day to day. Just changing the air temperature affects how much power is developed, and the pressure in your tires. You can chase all day, every day, until you no longer have the will, and you'll never get to perfect. Can't be done. So, what do you want to accomplish? tom

I feel a bbk should atleast be able to even accelerate faster than a stock tao tao 50, which I cant. I just feel like it has more to give that it wont.
