Stock speedo is 5mph faster than the speed monitors in school zones.Maybe theres a bigger difference at 45 mph. I would say so. School zones are usually 15 mph and to be off by 5mph at that low speed I would guess that your error gets progressivly worse as speed increases so you could be off by as much as 15-20mph at top end. I've seen scooter speedos that are reading 80mph when the scoot is actually doing 35mph. Also, people sometimes overlook the fine print right on the speedometer itself.... Km/hrThe sign would blink if youre going faster than 25.The sign would say 30 and Id have 35 indicated on the speedo. Shit, maybe the sign is higher than actual speed. Point taken.

jokes on you if you let the tao tao get the better of you. It's a skill in itself to be able to have these chinese scoots running reliably.

50 mph on a 49cc 4T not that strange. I've hit 50 indicated on mine a few times with only an iridium plug and needle adjustment. Yeah right, I did a ton of mods to my GY650 with a ported big valve head, 88cc 52mm, etc. and I still only hit 50 going downhill. (GPS) Probably coulda done 50 on flat road if I had bothered to do the CVT mods and change out the gears before I sold it.

not all scooters are gy6. my 50cc piaggio would go 55 stock on a nice long straight. with a bbk, and some other mods it would do it on a short straight and 60 on a long one

thxcuz - fun read, like your sense of humor. I'm sure you'll prevail. I think about buying something bigger but it's so rewarding to have something off-the-grid you can actually improve and maintain using you're own ingenuity.

It's like comparing apples to a steaming pile of previously eaten apples. Both have apple DNA but only one of them are edible. Or something like that What were we talking about?

I think we were talking about you giving up, and generalizing 50 cc 4 stroke scooters
believe it or not the basic design of the gy engines isn't much different than the Italian and Japanese.
simply better materials

Arrrrrrghhh! Broken crank Piston is shot as is the piston skirt. Likely all floating around in the crank case. Time to part it out to get the money to buy a better scooter. Or If you are in Cairo Il, Memphis TN, Nachez MS or New Orleans LA and you see a scooter floating down the river, you can have it.

Broken crank? Looks like a busted con rod to me from what I see in the photos. Too many rpm's for the weight of the piston perhaps...or, bad Chinese metallurgy which never happens, ha ha.
Very sorry to see this. You know, Scrappy's sell new engines as complete bolt in units including gears, cvt, etc. for about $350. For a little more, you can get one with the 72mm bbk already installed. If/when my engine goes, I would consider doing that because it is about 1/2 the cost of a new scoot and all drive train stuff would be new.
Just mentioning this as a possible option.
Good luck.

Well then, that can be repaired a lot easier and cheaper than if you had busted the crank.

Doesn't cost much to buy a 150cc as opposed to a 50cc....
