NEVER EVER GIVE UP OR GIVE IN TO THE GY6! Did we give up when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor, NO. I just got my orange tao tao up and running again. Don't only do it for yourself, do it as an inspiration to the rest of us.

If I decide to replace my rod, is there a tutorial somewhere? My googling comes up with bubkis. I don't even know how to split the case.....yet

I think the rod and crank are an assembly. ScrappyDog has a at least one video working on a GY6... I always figure, it will come apart if you remove enough bolts!

You would have to ask someone who knows, like Brent but, I was thinking that maybe, just maybe, the rod could be replaced without splitting the cases. If the crank can be rotated such that you can flip the rod, what is left of it, and reach the bolts...and...if you can do the same thing when installing the new rod...it might work. Note...I said might as I really have no idea. Of course, you would need to like...vacuum out the crankcase to remove every last little bit of debris or, you would just be asking for trouble later on. You might need to split the cases just for the clean up...Someone on here will know.

These aren't like cars where you have a conrod and a cap so it bolts on. You have to take the crank out and take the gears off and the bearings and then press the crank apart. The big end of the conrod rides on the crank pin with a bearing. Replace the bearing and rod and then it has to be pressed together and checked/trued and all reassembled. Some people make it look easy. I tried one 2T crank and it was clear to me that replacing the whole crank is the way to go for me, or I'd let someone that makes it look easy do the job for me. 49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/9184/crankshaft-disassemby-reassembly-truing

Yea...that's outside of my wheelhouse. The $100 parts scooter may be a better solution....considering the parts that are missing are the ones I already bought from the guy.
Unless the tgb deal goes through, then I'm parting out the tao tao

Crank pro: less money, slightly better quality Crank con: I have no idea what I am doing Crank pro: I can learn, then I have a new skill Crank con: my problems usually come from me futzing with things I shouldn't be futzing with
