Failure report.
I have blown the welds on the intake... or the exhaust.
I ripped the exhaust hanger clean off the pipe. I knew it was coming. I have been putting off re welding it because well I'm 90% lazy, 80% of the time.
I also popped a head gasket/oring, so now she sits as I wait for the replacements from europe.
I pulled a bunch of timing out of it, sitting around 15 degrees from 17 and it's quite a bit quicker in the midrange. I tried to find any definitive info if my Daytona CDI boxes have a slight curve and what that would be but I can't find any info if they are just straight timing or have a curve programmed, So with some trial and error I have this. If I want even more pulled, which I am curious to try I will need to re make my timing plate that holds the pickups. Past me didn't plan well for future me.
I also have started making full exhausts, have got all the port timings, ran it thru a few calculators and will probably try to get the header sections done asap. I finished making the cylinder flanges yesterday and boy howdy they look sporty.

To bring that old Spree back to life was already a job well done but when I saw the aluminum block and that milling stuff I just wet my pants. That is what I call crazy genius work. I mean having the tools around and skills is friggin awesome. Sorry to hear about the failure but I am sure you'll get her up and running again.

Thanks guys Here is a photo of failure #1 While I have been waiting I made up these cylinder studs out of some bolts on ye old CNC. And my dog, Bruce. Just because he is rad. All the parts are here to fix this thing, but I got roped into my GF's Vespa. Trying to convert to DC12V without buying anything, Going to re wrap the stator and put a honda 12v rectifier/reg on it.

I lvoe the sheer "Fuck it, why not" of this project.
Is it one of those twin cylinders for drag racing so post-pubescent teenagers can measure their dicks among their peers? Nope
Is it a show off of the lucky 1% that through large sums and scooters and then just show pictures of when they are "just put together". Nope
Why this? Because you can. Bravo. love it. Keep going!

I do it because if I didn't do it, I wouldn't be able to sleep at night. These are the things that keep me up. Haha.

Well the Vespa is dead, 60kph soft seize/wheel lockup. I pushed it back into the corner of the garage. Motor is coming apart. It has given me more free time for the Spree. I did a thing. My Visa loves me. I purchased two CM 70cc kits they are based on the Speedfight cylinders. I have been fabricating exhaust stuff up on the CNC. The header flanges are done other than the spring retainer holes and the Stinger tube clamps are also done. Just waiting for the laser cut pipe sections and I can hopefully have it done for the rally on may 20th. Thats all for now.

Question. The rear Kitaco wheel on the spree, did you have to machine it for a 4x140 bolt pattern?

Yes, it is not a direct bolt on.

Im sure you did it yourself but, any idea what it'll cost to do that? I can get wheels from the philippines but theyre $450 with hubs.

If I was quoting out to do that at home it would be about 1-2 hours @ 60 an hour to do the rear wheel. Turn the wheel shells to the diameter then setup the wheel on the mill and drill in the new bolt pattern, but every shop is different. You could easily lay out the bolt pattern at home and drill it, it is turning the wheel for the rear hub that is difficult without a lathe or machine shop access. For the front you would want to just get a monkey disk hub, it bolts in.

Somethin's brewin in the kitchen. Im still waiting for my laser cut pieces, so I grabbed the angle grinder and made a new header section, it's roughly calculated out so it might be ok? I wish I was a pretty welder.

A bunch of juicy calculations and fabricating, stupid fast spree, and a rad dog too? What's not to love about this thread!?

Sounds pretty good. Need to make spring brackets and some sort of hangers. Now i'm all horned up to do the real ones.
