I would suggest getting a CHT gauge to keep an eye on engine temps while you break in the engine and for tuning the carb. Contgrats that you got it all together. Just waiting to see them wheelie/burn out vids. Not sure about "wheelies" but temp gauge I should definitely try Lol. Don't wanna ruin my new engine, tho it would give me know choice but to get a better cylinder. Oh ya

You could always make a base using the templates from here. Was this using the cardboard method? I've only read about it, never tried. I was going to try and find gasket paper of some type when I go into the city tom. Cereal boxes make for great gasket material.

Cereal boxes make for great gasket material. Well then let's make a cereal box gasket 😁 sounds fun. Really. And I don't want to go far into this subject, but I've always kinda thought the cardboard would get too hot. Rough average expirey for these things? Lol

Lol I'm trying to think if I've ever left a motor alone long enough to say how long a cereal box gasket would last... lol not very long, but I bet the paper gasket would last longer than a year.

Tomorrow when working on your scoot, try starting the scoot without the airbox attached. Just see what happens.

Yay ! It started up and had it running for about a 30seconds....then it sloooooowly bogged out. The only way it seems to even start is if I'm holding the throttle wide open and holding the starter for like 3-4seconds ,which is a long time, then I let go of starter button and keep holding throttle. It'll just barely stay running on its own for a second or 2 then dies again. It'll do this every time I try, which was probably about 5 times. I stopped. Squish is veeery high @ 1.7mm so I'm gonna chuck the copper gasket. Sorry guys I totally forgot about taking a video until afterwards! I was just eager to hear something! Maybe check port timings today so you guys can get a better feel for what's going on here. If can't figure out something today I think I'll make a new post for this, probably in the performance section. wish me luck Good to hear you got it running Pinkflames. I got my bbk on and running but not much time to sort the last bit which is carb tuning. Still its running good enough to let my partner Yolanda have a go round the car park. She had a Harley when younger but started suffering siezure's so stop riding not had one for a decade now so hopefully she enjoys it and gets back into scooters. You appear to be getting a lot of useful help from other members here. Once I have finished with the 5&6 yr olds in the schools teaching them kerbcraft and back from Portugal it will be it willbe school holidays so I shall finish mine if not been done by then. After reading through this lot I really need a two stroke next to do a bbk on. Don't see so many in the UK, they being killed off with goverment legistration on emissions. I suspose the same in Canada really. My last 2stroke tuning was a couple of decades ago with a 1960's BSA Bantam 125cc which was turned into a formula racing bantam could do 105 mph which was good for the day. Hope all goes well with build

I guess learning one (2T or 4t)makes it also seem like a harder task learning the other since it's a whole new ball park. But I'm also glad I got a 2 stroke, like others who enjoy working on them. Unfortunately I didn't get too doing anything on my scooter today, but my day turned out nice with sunshine all day!! I couldn't resist But of aaallll the places I went to I COULD NOT for the life of me find my copper spray in the city. Here goes another trip in the morning..... I DID tho manage to get 90% of my leakdown tester figured out. I think a bit of Silicone around any edges and some teflon tape should do the trick! I'm gonna have to find another/different fitting for the intake as I don't really think the threads will seal all that well.

Definitely beats spending money on a $20 roll of cardboard paper lol. I seen that today and I was like nyaah. And then I see this! Brilliant! We'll dig out some shoebox tmr and carve me out a gasket

The outside diameter of a (correction) 1/2" fitting with a little sanding will fit into the rubber intake where the carb fits. Might take a little work to get it in, but that should help

Was this using the cardboard method? I've only read about it, never tried. I was going to try and find gasket paper of some type when I go into the city tom. Iv been using store bought gasket material, but as others have suggested, other materials can be used. Plus its a fun way to hone your arts and crafts skills Crafty skills I have 😜 definitely keep myself busy with a few hobbies Lol. The store bought are probably easier to cut. As I talked with Niz before about the cricut machine, I think it would be awesome if he dug it out and became the 49cc gasket guy, "gaskets! Gaskets! Get em while there hot". AtariGuy Thank you, it only took me 30mins which involved me and my daughter on the floor of the hardware store, playing with pvc lol Sorry still kinda confusedw about the size measurements like 1/2" and so on. My tee is suppose to be a 1/2" but I'm not measuring a half inch anywhere. I actually had thought I sorted all the parts out into a cart online and then when I arrived to the store, nothing seemed to match up at all. The threaded end which I had planned to use for the intake is 1" on the outer diameter which is 25mm, 2mm larger than the inner diameter. Are you suggesting I find a slip fitting on either sides with an outer diameter of 1"? These measurements are killing me. The fitting that I attached to my gauge says 1/2"x1/4". NOWHERE am I getting those measurements.
