Much luck! Did you get a leak tester on it? Slow bog/dying could be a/f mix escaping below the cylinder Unfortunately I couldn't find the exAct parts needed for the leak down tester. I'll be heading into town tomorrow so I'm gonna find what I need there. That might be the problem since I did notice a bit of leakage coming from the exhaust flange/area. Might have to do a bit more filing on the bracket. Update soon, sorry guys this is taking longer than expected.

Pull the spark plug, smell of it, look at it, send us a picture to see what your mixture might be doing. As far as leaks go soapy water sprayed around can tell you a lot but it needs to run first. Your idle circuit could be loading up the cylinder rich.

Yay you got it running! Sounds like it just needs a little carb tweaking and you'll be tearing up the streets!
What jets are in the carb now?
If you're running stock carb and airbox you'll probably end up somewhere around; stock idle jet, 80 main jet, one clip richer than middle setting on needle... may not necessarily be where you end up but should be in the ballpark!

Thats great news you have it running. Now you can get any leaks and tune it in.

It's an old plug(still good) so I can't get exact readings for the plug. I wouldn't really want to reply on plugs right now as I may have a leak coming thru the exhaust. I'll solve that one quick, along with my leak tester tomorrow. niz76 yes I'm still running the stock setup ... for now! Hehe. I plugged in the 85 main and that's all I changed. My pilot %100 doesn't have a number on it but I'm assuming it's a 22.5 like most of the setups I've seen. The airbox also seems to be dripping gas/oil mix when I tried starting it. Should I just try the 80? Or it should still run with the 85 even tho it's a bit rich? And the baseline setting for the AF mixture, 1/2-2 turns out still applies here?

Touch up the plug with a thin fine file since sparks jump easier from sharp edges, end and bottom of side electrode and center electrode need to be flat with sharp coners. You might have to bend back the side electode to do this - use suitable needlenose pliers to do this then regap to 0.7mm. Otherwise get a new plug. This will help start in adverse (rich in particular) conditions.

Not sure if this helps but these are the durations I got for : Exhaust port - 162 and Transfer ports 103. Haven't gotten a chance to put everything back together yet , but I was wondering , since my original squish clearance was 1.7mm and I'm going to remove the copper gasket which would leave me around 1.25mm plus the thickness of the sealant. I know 1.2 would be my max for the target range, but would this be alright to run? Should I chuck the base gasket aswell?

That's some pretty modest porting numbers. Don't worry so much about the squish. Cranking compression much more important at this point. Anything above 135 psi should be good.

Again I'm quite impressed with what you've learned so quickly! Those durations are very mild which means u won't be getting super high rpm's, but should be plenty of power down low. If it were me, I'd add another base gasket to raise durations a bit (if u have one, if not no biggie) and delete the head gasket. (copper spray only). That's just me- whatever you decide I'm sure you'll love the 70cc over the 49cc and soon be wanting MOAR!! lol

I would suggest getting a CHT gauge to keep an eye on engine temps while you break in the engine and for tuning the carb. Contgrats that you got it all together. Just waiting to see them wheelie/burn out vids.

Great to hear that from you learning from some great people here 😊 My durations seemed to be a bit different from what I've seen on here. Eric(scootertuning guy) told me the kit should max out no more than 9000rpm. Will I still not be able to reach the max with a pipe etc. , having the "mild" port setup majiggy ? And I don't have another base gasket for now, but I can get one. Head gasket gone. I was really hoping to get a kit that would be more heavy on the top end but I think this is good for a starter 🙂 Probably gonna need bit heavier rollers but we shall see!!

I was going to try and find gasket paper of some type when I go into the city tom.
