I used male/female bullet ends when I did my speedometer replacement. I also like to use alternating male/female like you have here so I canāt mix up 12v +/-

I made 4 washers for the turn signals out of ABS this morning. I think these are better suited for the task than the steel ones anyway. Adapting an LED friendly flasher wasnāt tough. Signals installed and flashing at normal speed now. Running lights shown below. I left the modified tail bracket alone for about a day and a half after paint before touching it. Finished that up today, with simple 2 wire connection for the tag light in the frame. Iām happy with the mods. Iād like to see it all together, but panels will have to be off for the Malossi fuel controller. I do appearance mods and then ride it around missing panels. Makes sense.

I tried aftermarket mirrorsā¦ wellā¦ just one really. I like the look, aside from having no boot to cover the mount. Had to mod the mounts a little to fit and not totally pleased there either. Decided not to install for now. I got the Malossi Force Master 2 CDI in, as well as a Malossi air filter. I really donāt know why they refer to it as a CDI. It only controls fuel. It plugs in between the factory ECU and injectors. It taps into the coil positive for RPM reading and one wire of the TPS for throttle position. Otherwise, it just needs a ground connection. Once installed, you have to calibrate the TPS signal. Basically just moving dials and turning the key on and off with the throttle open or closed. I set it on curve 0, for stock with a Malossi exhaust and filter. Other settings are for big bores and cams. All dials on 0 to stick with fueling as mapped by Malossi, but dials can add or remove 20% to idle, 2000 to 6000RPM and above 6000RPM. I put the fairings back and installed the other piece that started all of this (MultiVar takes some blame too). I got a gloss black Y fairing for the front from Italy. Itās always bugged me that it was gray/ flat. I took a ride and it pops less on decel now and feels more smooth at low RPM. Still pops/crackles at some low RPM/low speed riding, but doesnāt feel as rough. I didnāt do any performance checks because it was windy. After those, I could try adding more fuel to the mid, but I donāt know if Iāll bother. I got a bunch of pics while I was out, so Iāll get some of those up whenever Iām on the PC later.

I rode about 160 miles today to the beach. I rode easy all the way there because I was curious if I could still get decent mileage after all of the mods. I was against a pretty strong wind a lot and still got 47.2MPG. The best tank I've had in 5.5 years of owning this thing was 52.2MPG... but that was the very first tank of gas when I was trying to convince myself that I was going to treat my new scoot with respect. lol The fill-ups from recent rides with lots of testing and playing with the exhaust are more like 39MPG, but that's not something I haven't seen before with just light sliders in the stock vari when riding somewhat aggressively. It sounds dumb to me, but I enjoy riding this more now because it feels like mine. I haven't done anything incredibly special, but I like it. The exhaust makes it more fun, aside from needing to wear ear plugs to prevent further hearing damage on anything near a long ride. I also like that maybe people know I'm somewhere around them since it makes noise. I merged onto the highway and gunned it to get in a gap and realized that I wouldn't have done that before because it used to feel so sluggish getting moving. So far, I'm happy.

I got back from a quick ride and disconnected the o2 sensor's connector. No check engine light at idle or just blipping the throttle. Hmmm.
I was considering pulling the o2 out and putting a wideband in, just long enough to see how it's doing. Primarily concerned with WOT, just wondering if it's close to typical peak power AFR or if it could be adjusted there. I don't know how much this thing uses closed loop and the o2 anyway or how exactly the fuel controller could change that, but WOT should do what it's doing without it.
Not sure that I want to get into that though. I may just call it done. I'd have to get the TaoTao out and uninstall the wideband setup and then find a way to temp install it on the TMAX and then put it back on the TaoTao. Don't really think I'd be changing much for all of that work. Realistically, this is not a race bike. It's just something that I ride and enjoy and it seems to work as-is.

I decided to put the effort in and swap the stock o2 out for a wideband. Had to strip the TaoTao down a bit and I had the wideband wires in with the stock harness so that had to be cut out. Iād prefer keeping the original o2 in and using a wideband in addition, but I donāt want to weld another bung in. I just set it up in temp fashion. Old battery under the seat powers it to save wiring. I fired it up and it idles at 13-14:1 warm. I adjusted to 14-15:1 by moving the ālowā dial on the fuel controller from 0 or 12:00 to about 10:30. I rode it with no other changes. It seemed like it popped a bit more on decel and it appeared to be more lean at some low throttle/low speed scenarios. I hadnāt checked AFR before, but it broke up worse in the trouble spots and the wideband was showing 15:1 and leaner there. Doesnāt make sense by Malossiās description that the low dial is for 2000RPM and under since itās at 4000RPM or so when itās doing thisā¦ but I also donāt know what effect the lack of o2 has. It may stay in itās own tables all of the time now for all I know or it could be closed loop and missing the o2. No check engine light or any sign that the o2 was missed though. I left it. Checked various cruise speeds. It varies, but just to get an ideaā¦ 30-40MPH : 14-15:1 40-50MPH : 13-14:1 60-70MPH : 12.5:1 With mid adjustment described as 2000 to 6000RPM, I donāt see how that would be straightened out much since all of those cruise speeds are in that range. I think youād need to modify fuel tables and thatās not an option to my knowledge. I left that alone. Acceleration enrichment seemed to be doing it's job. If I started to twist the throttle to speed up a bit while cruising, sometimes I'd see as rich as 11:1 briefly. WOT stayed pretty much on 12.5:1. I was thinking it may make more power if I could lean it to around 13.2:1 as a first guess. Moving the high dial to 10:30 put the mix right there, just by luck. I used the dragy and did 1/4 mile runs and it was slow. Now 16s and even a 17. I moved the high dial to add fuel instead, at 1:30. That put the mix around 12:1. Not as slow, but still slow. OK, maybe they had it right. Moved the high dial back to 0. Just as it was initially setup. Still slow. My fastest run was low 16s through all tests. Should be mid 15s normally. - It was windy today. That sucks for accuracy. - The stock o2 was not installed. - Multiple runs say low satellites and some are screwy like 22 seconds and trap speeds like 45MPH. - The low screw is adjusted from where it started. So thereās the list of ifs and buts. Right now, I think I would have been just as well off to leaving it all at 0 and go on with life. I will likely mess with it more if I can get a calm day. Kinda tempted to just take the wideband off and let it use itās own o2 just in case and make any adjustments via feel and times. Itās a good tool, but I donāt like not knowing what the lack of o2 could potentially change. Not sure what Iāll do yet. This is one of those times that English tech support or a more thorough manual would be really helpful. A clear answer about when or if it even uses the o2 now would be quite useful and if the dials are not purely RPM but perhaps work at throttle percentages.

Just got back from playing with the fuel controller again. This time the dragy is mounted on top of the scoot instead of in my pocket. Trying to be sure satellites aren't screwy. The stars aligned and it was only a 3MPH wind. I went past flags that weren't moving. 65 degrees. Nice!
I started out with all dials at 0 as mapped by Malossi. I tried it between the original setting around 12.5:1 WOT, about 12.8:1 and about 13:1. Ran great with all of them. I'll average the numbers to see where I want to leave it set... but my best run was 14.88 in the 1/4! I'm not sure if anyone has ever been this happy to run a 14.88. To be real; I can't tell the difference between the 15.5 and 14.9 runs... but it feels good on paper to be over 2 seconds quicker than before the recent mods (17+ sec 1/4). š
So now I can leave this thing alone and just go back to enjoying riding. If I mess with the controller anymore, I won't need a wideband. I don't think I will though. Rideability is good and I have no complaint with fuel economy.
BTW, with the dials at 0 and the o2 unplugged, it seemed to run just like it did with the same setting and the o2 installed. I'm not sure that it does anything with the o2 after the fuel controller.

So now I can leave this thing alone. We'll see how long this holds upš It gets really expensive beyond this point. Maybe something else appearance related, but I don't have any plans to big bore it. Even cams say they should be used with Malossi pistons. I'm quite happy with it. I enjoy looking at it more than ever and I think it's quite a bit more fun to ride. Never say never, but I don't think you'll see anything else performance wise... maybe CVT check/adjustment or something. I have heard some say that the belt or possibly the variator wears more quickly after the MultiVar.

I rode a couple hundred miles today. Went to a friendās house in the morning, but left about an hour and a half early to ride a little first. Left there and went to the swamp areas. Got lost for a minute, thinking I knew where a road went, but if youāre gonna get lostā¦ this is the way to do itā¦
