All of the bearings were new when I put these cases together but the gears were from my other motor. I haven’t really kept track but I think I might have 1200 miles on this one maybe more. I’ll pull it apart and give it a inspection. If it looks good then I’ll go with heavier gear oil. I’m using 75/90 now.

I first drained off the gear oil and it didn’t look good. Pulled the trans cover and everything looks as it should. No wear marks, bearings have minimal play but I may still replace the small 6200’s. It seems the the teeth on the gears have wear, some gears have a rounded profile while the others have a nice straight edge. It could be an illusion. I’ll run it some more and see what the oil looks like after a few tanks with heavier oil.

Just racking up miles and smiles here... Really just plugs, oil and checking the belt and she has been doing pretty good. Fuel economy is about 45mpg, temps are good, plug says borderline lean, its LC though, I’ve just been running her hard and putting her away wet. I spent the past few days at OC Maryland and got a taste of where 90GTVert causes trouble at and where the September and October shows are that he mentioned awhile back that I’d like to make it to. So I got inspired to finally get my other cases with the Athena Evo sealed up and leak free. Stator side trench was leaking so I dug out the old JB and refilled with a fresh package. Leak tested and it held pressure all day. Pressure tested the coolant side at 12psi and no leaks there either. I’ve got some 10:1 gears that I never installed on my current motor which I need to do to swap my 11:1 gear set onto this case. I lightened and balanced the clutch arms on my HiT clutch to hopefully get some more life out of it. I probably won’t install this engine yet because I’ve been enjoying my current motor and going on lengthy rides that I don’t know if this cylinder would like. Btw I’ve been using 90/140 gear oil for a few hundred miles and it’s looking much better then before. I guess the gearboxes just don’t like 100+ mile trips. forensic anthropologist salary canada

That case/evo bore looks like it’s begging to be bolted up!
Did you ever change over to a heavier gear oil? I didn’t swap in my Doppler 15/50s when I did my rebuild :headbang: I was wondering what weight you suggest so I can check it off my list. I’ll also be installing a new big bearing, not the 2 6200s. I needed this 11:1 ratio like months ago..

I swapped over to some 90/140 gear oil and the oil is looking much better. I also swapped the axle final drive gear around because that just slides on the shaft with no direction which could of also been an issue. Whichever was the solution the glitter is minimal after a few hundred miles.
I’ll get it bolted up eventually, I just don’t want to wear it down before showtime. I’m sure it’ll be fine but the cast cylinder I’m using now is very reliable for my long rides that I don’t even feel the need to monitor temps, only in traffic.

Just swapped out my old HiT 112mm clutch for a 107mm 50deg HiT. Its raining otherwise I’d take it out but 5 minutes of launches in the garage should be enough break in. Now it’s back to launching on the pipe which makes me happy again. Seems like some tire spin on the concrete also, good clutch. Is this HiT clutch model# 161301-107? I think you have me sold on this one. It comes with a bell too so I don’t have to get that separate like I would have going my other route. Positive engagement at 9200-9800 sounds enticing.

It looks like they did some redesigning on the new clutch. The anchor points for the springs look a lot less beefy. It looks lightened up over all.

This is the one I got. www.partsforscooters.com/169-222_HiT_ClutcholdgeekIt is of thinner construction compared to my last but that might be 5 years old, or more. The springs are a lot easier to get on because of the design which was the issue with the last. Where the springs connect got grooved lessening the spring tension.

I finally decided to give the clutch a shake down, and boy did I. The best twisties are in neighborhoods at twice the posted speed limit but only in Mexico. This setup is everything it used to be and more. The recent build has always been subpar now it’s back to where it should be. I even got a compliment. With the cool weather I’ve got a little rattle developing after awhile at max rpm so I’ll bump my main up a size to 86 and it should be ok.

I took a look at the calendar and realized there is a OC gathering I’d like to cause trouble at in 2 weeks. That means I should swap to my other Athena Evo motor. Swapping an AC drum brake motor is sooo much easier then the modified disc setup and LC. Well it’s in, all the little pieces need to get transferred over then Sunday I’ll get some tuning time. You’ve seen the process plenty of times so I’m not posting many pics. Here’s a look at the plug from the Polini that was in there.

Sometimes air cooled does have its advantages.

I’ve got everything swapped over, added a few degrees of advance. Started in a few kicks and smoked out the garage. Cleared out the assemble oil and it’s running much better then it’s last attempt when I was having ignition issues and broken reeds. A few hot laps around the neighborhood and then I remember to add the gear oil. No harm it’s all bearing gearbox. I haven’t swapped jets just a mixture adjustment. No bog with full throttle takeoff but I’ve get to get it out of the ‘hood first to see what it wants. Tomorrow I’ll get some tuning time.

Here’s the maiden voyage. Sounds like it wants to come apart when it’s up on the pipe but it pulled good. A heavier TD spring might be needed to pull harder out of corners and there is a slight bog at times from a stop, other times the front gets light. The jetting is the same as previous 40/85 W9 I think. Stock box no holes just snorkel out. CHT was around 230, egt under 1100, the plug was dark and was a #9 youtu.be/jFlNMWvDBXQ

Looks like it moves once it gets off the line. With a good CVT setup (and maybe a stock clutch ) it should go pretty hard.
