Retired disabled old vet (1984-1987 USAF) Just purchased a 2017 Tao Tao Powermax VIP 150cc 157QMJ. Getting her broke in and prepping to have some fun. My goal is top speed and not quickness. I need it to run 55-60 mph uphill and not kill the little GY6. I plan on a flat level run of 70 mph (Not going to run there just visit it lol) . I live in South Carolina USA and have 8 miles to the next towns/city in either direction so open roads it is. I plan on doing trips to Charlotte North Carolina to visit my friends from MSLF ( paceneedsstides) . I will get the scooter broke in and check everything good and find out what tires/gear ratio I need to be able to roll those long rides. At my age (50) I have a severe case of R.A. stage 3-4 (Rheumatoid Arthritis) and hope this scooter works out for me. So far so good. I did one run the other day 14 miles round trip and enjoyed it. I ran low rpm the best I could but wide open roads going slow just did not cut it. I did top it out on one hit 58 mph (GPS) and backed it down for the on off throttle hits to seat the rings. I am using Rotella 10-40 oil and Valvoline 75-90 gear oil. I will keep changing it until the break in is complete then switch to synthetic with Lucas oils stabilizer (Just a few drops to help both engine and gear). After break in I will check valve clearance change plug to iridium and find out what gears she carries from the factory. Chime in and give the good pointer. Heedehcheenuh Chuck D Ride on.....

I made my GY6 150 faster by ditching it for a TMAX. lol I'm a huge fan of modding, but I was unimpressed with the 150. Seemed like it took too much money or effort to make big changes. I went with a big bore kit (can only get to about 155cc without case work), cam, ported the head, and did what I could to boost compression. I took a ton of time to take measurements and find the static and dynamic compression ratios, and dynamic compression really suffered with the cam. I had a "high compression" 58.5mm bore cylinder with a bit of a domed piston and IIRC ran no base gasket to bump up compression more. I had to cut deeper reliefs into the piston because the valves would hit it. Also had a DrPulley variator and some other CVT tuning, a homemade muffler, timing advanced by moving the pickup, and a K&N filter. I put an oil cooler and cooling fan scoop on it to try and keep the oil and cylinder head temps below the ridiculous levels that they ran without that stuff. It was most definitely quicker and faster, but it was still not highway capable unless I wanted to be the slowest thing on the road and it wouldn't climb hills at the speeds you want. Others claim 60-70MPH stock so what do I know? 49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/14563/2006-roketa-cayman-150-mc

I will just try the tire / gear ratio for now then may do the basic ..carb/air intake/ exhaust after. I know doing maint. and good oil with a good spark plug helps. I am on a very slim budget (SSI/SSDI) so I have to make do with what I can for now. If my plans work out like I want I will go Suzuki Burgman 200 -Honda PCX 150 or Yamaha Smax. So far no one would finance it with the funding I have (My own fault for to many cards lol). I understand your information and have researched a good bit so the price for tweaking a $859.00 scooter vrs a $3,400.00 Honda PCX right now the Chinese scoot will have to do. Thanks again and chime in. I hope 16/36 - 17/38 gears will set my top speed to what I need then build small engine tweaks to get the power up. Heedehcheenuh Chuck D Ride on.....

In 1984 when I joined the USAF at 17 years of age (working on aircraft like the F-15/F-16/C-130/C-5/C-141 all multi million dollar birds that I did not own)..I told myself I can fix anything mechanical because there is a book somewhere to read that tells how it was made. Hot rods taught me a lot. I would wedge V-8s (Chevrolet-Vega/Pontiac Sunbirds/Ford Pintos) in little cars and use them for everyday driver. From making motor mounts trans mounts not counting building the power I wanted for the power to weight ratio. So from planes trucks cars mill/plant machinery I have learned a lot of quick and permanent fixes. Taught myself since 1998 how to build fix and repair custom stock and wild mod computers. With my disability I have plenty of time to research and figure out things that I want to work with. If I fail I try again and for the value of these scooters and parts...I can do it and have some fun. Now the name brand Japanese scooters are the ones I want and not tinker with..just ride. I just enjoy greasy sandwiches coffee sodas and nabs lol. All is good just my physical shape is what stops me from hustling like I want to do. Thanks. Gotta have a hobby and computers are fun but cost way to much to upgrade every 6 months Si I figure get out of the house some and put the wind in my hair. We have a limited helmet law (21 and younger) but I will wear mine as I like my noodle to much to leave some on the road lol. Heedehcheenuh Chuck D Ride on.....

Nahh to much time on the flight line sniffing fuels lol I say F-22 but the F-15 is undefeated in air to air with 101 dog fights to not a single plane shot down. We did have some get shot down with ground to air but not air to air. I was 6 years old when the F-15 was put into work and can remember the first time seeing one do a max climb/in-restricted climb and OMG is was a sight to see. Straight up faster than the speed of sound!?!?! Yep she would get gone in a hurry. She was the first ever to have better than 1-1 power to weight ratio...not the F-15E but the F-15C. F-15E is a ground attack/air to air fighter. Nothing made today (jet fighters) can out turn a F-16 as she has a killer turn ratio no one can match. She (F-16) was the first fly by wire fighter and she is nasty (good).
To me the F-35 is a joke. A-10 should never be replaced ever. 30mm gat and a tank for an airplane. Marines Army both love the A-10 for C.A.S. (Close air support)
