190mech, ryan_ott, and 20 more like this

6 days ago, John (190mech ) sent me PM saying that he, Ryan (ryan_ott), Larry (spaz12), Brian (moofus02), and Scott (oldgeek) got together to send me some stuff. He didn't give me any details. He just told me that and said he wanted to give me a heads up so I didn't refuse delivery of the "pet giraffe".
Hmmm.
I figured they would either send me something cool or they were going to mess with me and send me something to destroy the Roketa with. For anyone that doesn't know, my Roketa 150 has been for sale for a long time and some people would like to see it mutilated rather than sold. All of the people mentioned to me are 2T nuts, so I thought it was a possibility.
Yesterday, a chuck and some drill bits showed up in the mail. I didn't order any of it, so I assumed this to be the "giraffe".
I really wasn't sure what to make of this. I was sure they had a reason, but I didn't know what it was. I didn't even know exactly what the bits were for. I started trying to think of what I had drilled so badly that they were trying to keep me from doing such a thing again. I do so much half-assed stuff that it's hard to pinpoint any one thing.
I sent John a PM to say thanks, and told him that I wasn't sure that the chuck was going to fit my drill press or if I needed it since I could fit all of the bits that were sent.
John got back to me and told me that there was more. The "giraffe" would arrive the next day, according to the tracking number and there would be more to follow.
He also told me that I should probably start watching this dude's videos, and sent me a link to this :
At that point I thought they must have been sending me some DIY kit to make a mini-lathe. Even the "cheap" Chinese mini-lathes aren't actually inexpensive. I'm not at all calling the fellas cheap when I say that. My thoughts were more that I wouldn't expect anyone to send me any sort of DIY stuff, let alone an actual mini-lathe. Heck, the drill parts seemed like a lot to me when they showed up.
Hmmm. Not much I could do but get out my popcorn and wait to see what arrived.
I was in the garage working on the TMAX today when a FedEx van rolled in. The driver got out and said he had something really heavy for me. He didn't want me to handle it and said he'd put it wherever I wanted it. Either FedEx wants no part of a customer getting injured with heavy lifting or I was looking especially frail today. I said anywhere in the garage floor was fine and he delivered this crate.
I grabbed some tools and popped it open to find a mini-lathe just like the one in the video that John linked me to!
I want to say a BIG thanks to 190mech, ryan_ott, spaz12, moofus02, and oldgeek!!! I don't know what I did to make them want to send it, but it's badass of them!
All I have done so far is to check the instructions so I wouldn't tear anything up and then plug it in and run it for a few seconds to make sure it worked.
I have no clue what else there is, but I will post more about this mini-lathe and whatever else shows up. I will give my honest observations and opinions of it good or bad. To the guys that sent it or anyone reading for that matter; don't take any negative remarks as a lack of appreciation. I must tell it like it is to provide genuine info instead of advertising. Knowing all of the people involved in this, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't want it any other way.
Thank you once more to John, Ryan, Larry, Brian, and Scott!
