Attempted making some brackets to mount the lights yesterday, came out OK-ish until I tried to bend them with a hammer in the vice and stuffed the angles right up /would have worked fine, but I'm trying to keep at least some quality to my work lol. Spent a while last night doing a bit of CAD modelling (that's Cardboard Assisted Design) and worked out what I needed, took my template down this arvo along with a few beers. Bit of scrap 2mm steel *LOUD GURGLING* After a quick linish and a moment in the massive press bender Picked up a length of M8 all-thread and some nuts on the way home, used it to brace it all in position I swear the second one came out nicer! Nothing a sec with the grinder won't fix! Ready to go! Well after paint at least. Had a quick look through my stash of junk at the in-laws, turns out I've had Jog-style controls sitting in a box this whole time, so if it comes to it there an option at least. Still agonising the paint side of things.

I'd love to have a Jog crankcase welded to the Gyro engine like that one day!!
Found a stroker crank on Yahoo Japan that'll take my Malossi cylinder to 84cc, and if I wanted to have my cylinder bored out there's a piston kit from the same shop that takes it closer to 88cc! Already thinking of other bits I forgot to order lol, crank will take some saving up though.

You most likely have mentioned it already and I have missed it. Are you gonna keep the engine stock? I mean 50cc or are you gonna go bigger?

Malossi 70cc kit (which comes without a head on the Honda but does include an 85mj?), Naraku CDI, small end bearing, a pile of cable end fittings, 3 sets of wrong sized clutch springs (WHY can't I ever find the right sizes!!!), stickers etc. Think I'm going to build up another engine rather than swap the kit onto the current one, need to talk to a friendly vapour blaster in my car club about getting one of the spare engine's cases blasted up all pretty I think. tsimi I'm planning to get it on the road with the 50cc Canopy engine I swapped in. Once I've saved up some more money I'll build up one of the other engines I've got, both parts engines likely need cranks so if I'm spending that much on a new crank from Japan anyway I might as well spend the extra and stroke it at the same time...

Once again I was awoken by the courier, thanks yet again tsimi! Didn't realise when ordering that Honda don't include the mount plate with the ignition, I'm sure the parts diagram shows it!! Possibly going to need to order a second hand ignition just to get the plate which is the main part of the ignition set that I actually needed!! Edit: new plate is only ¥600 through WeBike, guess I'm going to have to place another order lol At least I've got the park lock lever assembly so I can set the bars etc up ready to go. Tsimi did the place you found those gauges have much else in the way of Gyro parts?

Tsimi did the place you found those gauges have much else in the way of Gyro parts? No those two gauges were all they had for Gyro. Btw, those peanuts stuff matches very well with beer. It's a popular beer snack over here. I hope those KitKat are Japanese enough for you, no clue if they are tasty though. I don't eat green tea stuff.

Tsimi did the place you found those gauges have much else in the way of Gyro parts? No those two gauges were all they had for Gyro. Not a worry, was just looking for more options of places to buy parts Have found what I need for the ignition on WeBike and if Yahoo auctions are an option again I have found a couple people selling the step area piece I need for cheap (but none I am finding have a buy it now option ) Just had a quick play in the shed, looks like things are going to clear without having to cut and extend the stem tube!! It's fairly tight, but if I keep my cables run nicely and close to the stem it should all clear. And I think you can see why I'm looking at other step mounts I don't really want to go bolting a brand new step down onto that! Other than a stroker crank and big carb I can't think of too much else I need to order now, need to make my mind up on what I am doing paint wise pretty quickly and get that under way! Even if I stick with white the rear section etc needs to be repainted as it's pretty grotty and faded etc.

That guy wants 1800 yen for shipping which is crazy even if that thing is cheap. Just in case, what would be your max. budget for it? Item plus domestic shipping.

Brand new from WeBike it would be 8,748 yen for the step mount and then 1,004 yen more for the battery hold down strap that attaches to it and then 275 yen for the pin that holds that to the mount. I would obviously like to keep it as far under that as I can!! There is another seller on Yahoo that has at least 5 of them listed for similar pricing but again I can't see a buy it now price page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/m177122584

Finally got around to pulling the rear fairing etc off today, found it was date coded Feb 1983 and from what I can find they started making the Gyro X in September 1982. Also found the paint code, NH-111 "Cortina white", my new plastics are NH-138 "Shasta white" which is a lot less yellow. Fairing had one tiny crack, managed to plastic weld the inside, touch of filler before paint and it'll be mint. Removed the remains of the step mount There is meant to be a battery mount and cable clips there... Couple naked glory shots lol Fingers crossed tsimi has some success bidding on a replacement step mount. I know I've thanked him several times already, but if it wasn't for Tsimi this project would likely be dead in the water, I'm super grateful for his help!! Have learned to be more careful looking at parts diagrams, if I'd looked closer I could have ordered an $8 mounting plate and reused my factory ignition rather than ordering an almost $100 lock set and then still needing to order the $8 mount to use it Looking on the bright side at least I've got nice new locks with fresh genuine keys Hopefully will find the time tomorrow to take my plastics around a couple of local painters, going to get quotes on painting the lot in a metallic vs just the rear fairing, storage bin and ignition shroud in Shasta white.

Just a small update this time, but hey any progress counts right? Ordered a new master cylinder/rear brake lever, there's nothing wrong with my Dio one but it won't clear anything bigger than a small throttle assembly, no room for switches also looks come into it a little lol And I had a go at the park brake cable, it's an odd cable that has three points of actuation, the lever pulls the end, there's a big fitting somewhere in the middle of the cable in the swing arm that pulls a lever locking the pivot, the inner then goes into another length of outer cable and runs into the gearbox area and locks the gears so the scoot can't be pushed. Well since the Canopy swing arm sets the engine about 1" further back the rear section of the stock cable is too short to reach the gearbox. So I originally hooked up the Canopy cable that came with my engines, but the problem there is the front section of cable is about 120mm or more longer than the stock Gyro X cable and there's no way to get it under the fairings. So I decided to attempt to use the outer cable from the front section of the stock X cable on the one from the canopy, first step was cutting the end off and I took a cable end I'd got with my last Racing Planet order and mocked it up to the right length. Bit of mucking around and I managed to use the TIG to ball the end of the cable to add a touch of extra security That'll do it. Fingers crossed there will be a pretty major update very soon too!
