I finally got the head and installed it! I'm very happy with it. I think I'm going to go with a performance cam next.

Did you have any piston to valve clearnace issues? I see you have an 80cc kit too, and my intake valve hit the piston before I notched it a little. I do have an aftermarket cam with a little longer duration though. I notice that everyone seems to be able to bolt everything on with no issues when you read all the forums, but I have had clearance issues with a couple of setups.

All I can tell you is that I did and that I think it's worth the time to check with new setups. I have bent vavles and screwed up guides that prove that to me. lol As I said before though, you rarely see anyone else mention this stuff so maybe I'm just lucky?

After lots of cold and/or rainy days recently, I finally got a nice day with plenty of time to get the SunL tuned a bit better. It's 72 degrees with 50% humidity, about perfect for me. ;D The only thing that sucks for tuning is that there are 10-20MPH winds. That's what averages are for though. I ended up removing more material from the center faces of the variator's fixed and moveable halves, and going with 4.5g sliders with a 1000RPM contra spring and stock clutch springs. I chose a 98 main jet with a 38 pilot for the best results and best looking plug chops. I was using roughly a 1/2 mile test distance. My best 2 runs with the transmission setup leave me wanting to try a little more, but I don't have the stuff to do it. Here are the results I got with 4.5 and 5.25g sliders.... The wind was blowing sorta diagonal to me, one way pushing me toward traffic and against me, the other way pushing me toward the ditch and with me. lol You can tell which was which... 4.5g To : 36.5MPH@7600RPM From : 46.5MPH@8600RPM Average : 41.5MPH@8100RPM 5.25g To : 35MPH@7500RPM From : 46.5MPH@8400RPM Average : 40.75MPH@795000RPM I stuck with the 4.5g sliders (BTW, the 16x13 5g sliders from scrappydog actually weigh 4.5g). I was pretty pleased with 46.5MPH sitting up, even with a tailwind. The averages show that I should be able to maintain 40-41MPH on flat roads when it's not windy. Nothing special, but that's OK for someone my size. If I tuck long enough with a little wind, maybe I can finally hit that 50MPH that everyone else does with their eyes closed. lol BTW, I noticed over at ScootDawg folks are now posting 60 and nearly 70MPH speeds with tailwinds and going down hills (mountains?), some via GPS. I'm sending the SunL out of an airplane next month with a GPS attached. Anyway, so I do still see 3 areas that could be improived upon in the transmission. I would like to try 4.75-5g rollers to really be sure it's dialed in the best. It might be time to get a set of 1000RPM clutch springs. I have stock and 2000RPM. Stock is OK, 2000RPM seems like way overkill to me for this engine. Finally, I think a straight track torque driver could make a nice difference. After being used to the ones on my 2Ts, I really dislike the little bog that happens when a standard tq drivers shifts angles. I should also note, I never saw any more signs of damage on my spark plug. I had mentioned before that I was concerned there may be valve contact or something, but it appears all is well. I'd say the head from scrappydogscooters is a good piece. I can't honestly say it outperforms the stock head I ported or the NCY big valve head form my experience, but it can hold it's own pretty well.

I went for a 40 mile ride tonight. I was eager to see if I could get any closer to my 50MPH goal, and I wanted to see what the gas mileage is with the new setup. Gas mileage has improved from 65MPG to 67.5MPG tonight. As usual, I can't hit 50. My previous best was 47.83MPH. I managed to just barely top it at 47.96MPH. I was tucked for a very long straight and the wind was calm enough that flags weren't even moving. I believe the area is just slightly downhill though. Gimme a tailwind, I gotta get 2 more MPH!

I've read taht too, but a customer had one and said he takes it off when he rides with the boys cause he can't keep up as easy. He said it's really nice for cold weather, fog, and rain, but not for speed. There was some discussion of this around here as well, although I forget where. I think part of the problem is that so many are made like a wall instead of laid back and rounded and such. Then again, I'm too fat to tuck really flat on these little scoots so a really small one may be more aerodynamic than me and help a bit. I might try to file the variator face a little more (not much room left) to encourage the fromt pulley to close a little farther. I took a grinder with a flap wheel to the steel fixed half and took maybe .5mm off of it already. I don't wanna go any farther to make sure it still has plenty of material to attach to the crank and stay strong. I also already looked into modding the tq driver for more potential, but it looks like this one is actaully close to it's limits stock. I do think a longer belt may help, but the only one I've seen is 671mm instead of 669. THe next step up is for longcases and way too big. I dunno if there really is that much more to get out of it though. I am going all the way to the edge of my vari now. Just more reasons why it amazes me that all these folks can get speeds faster than me with stock transmissions, milder engines, smaller tires, etc.... I know I'm essentially as heavy as most of them 2up, but it just feels like I'm out of gear. Maybe it would just rev higher eventually if I wasn't so heavy. I think one of my friends that rides sportbikes will be around this weekend. He's about 150. Maybe I can convince him to run it tucked for a bit for me and see if he bests my mark. Not sure if he'll wanna or not. That could be it though. I know I could max out the vari on the Venus and everything was as tuned as I could get it. I kept the same gears and the same transmission setup and went 7MPH faster with the 90cc at less RPM. The lighter rifer would have effects much the same as increasing power. That still wouldn't explain why folks around my size all go 50 with ease apparently. lol Can you tell this bothers me?

Most folks dont use an accurate speedo and quote high speeds,bet if they had Sigmas it would be a different tune!!
