A lot of them say they use GPS. I have seen IllGotti from ScootDawg and other sites post an actaul GPS map of his route saying he hit almost exactly 50MPH and it even told the declines/incilnes which were all mild. Thats's pretty cool. But see, he's struggled like me to get that 50MPH. Much like me, he's got a lot of parts and time into his scoot and it's an 80cc as well. He's much lighter though. The only thing odd about his experience is that he is using the deeper Naraku gears and a smaller tire.

Oh snap... I got my friend that weighs about 150-160 to hop on and he hit that speed in somewhere between 1/8 to 1/4 mile and and topped it out on flat ground with essentially no wind. Good lord taht thing takes off a lot faster when he's on it. I think it could go faster if I set it up for him a little better, although I don't know that there's a lot left. When he came back I looked at the speedometer and said, "Nice! I'm not stupid, I'm just fat! Yay!" I'd still like to get that last 2MPH to hit 50 with my weight on it, but I'm quite relieved that I'm not totally incompetent. lol

Don't get me wrong, it ain't doing that in the 1/8. It would do that in the 1/4 from what I saw though. Compare that to 3 1/2MPH slower with me on it, tucked for a very long stretch, with the assistance of a little tailwind. Weight makes a big difference on the 2Ts and 150s, but it's even worse on the 50cc 4Ts. Next thing you know I'll be recruiting small children to take top speed runs on the SunL for me. I still think dropping it from a plane with a GPS attached would be much easier. Hmmmm... you have access to planes John..... :devil:

Nice to hear that your modded 139QMB will hit 50! Most people would have become discouraged and ditched the project. You hit a lot of potholes but still managed to get to a good place. Atta boy! :riding:

Thanks. The sad part is, the scoot probably coulda done 50 with a few of the different setups had I just stuck a lighter rider on it.

I managed it. It cost the best part of £1200 and many hours work, but it did do it in the end. The strain of a 90cc BBK did destroy the crank within 2000K

I'm not sure what I have into it with different heads and all the gaskets from swapping parts and other stuff I've tried, this setup is : $20 UNI Filter $0 Stock Carb (modded for better airflow) $10 98 Main Jet / 38 Pilot jet $0 Stock Intake (port matched to the head) $100 50mm BBK $50 NCY "Performance" Cam (stock lift, longer duration) $125 ScrappyDog's Big Valve Head (increased combustion chamber size to 6.8cc) $65 P&P Exhaust $80 Naraku Speed Kit (Vari + 1000 Contra) (modded the vari as well) $0 Modded Stock Fixed Drive Face $20 4.5g Sliders $40 120/90/10 Michelin Bopper Rear Tire ---------------------------------------------------- $510 Total That price could be knocked down a bit though I'm sure. The stock head with port work and opening up the combustion chamber went just a fraction of a MPH slower with me on it than this setup. I'd bet you could knock the $125 for the head off if you are willing to work on it. That would get the price down to $385. You could probably knock the $80 for the Naraku kit down to $10 for a contra spring if you mod the stock variator. That would bring the total down to $315. You might be able to stick with a stock tire and knock the price down to $275, becasue I really think this has a couple MPH left if it were tuned for the lighter rider. If you have a long case, you probably already have a big tire. Even $275 is expensive considering everyone but me bolts on a BBK and goes 50 like it's no big deal. There's still more to come for me though. I should probably be happy with 48MPH @ 300lbs... but it's so close that I just gotta see that 50 mark for myself.

Im happy it hit 50 but i wish you were on it . You are soo close tho! And you know now that it will do it :clap: . Weight plays the biggest factor i believe . My car used to feel faster with one or two people in it. Get three in their and i could sure feel it. The Sun sure has come far huh? Look back at it when ya picked it up... ;D Good job man, keep it up :thumb:

My friend that rode it said it was a HUGE difference. Last time he got on it, it was still topping out at 35ish. lol I've put it through a lot (not to mention my father crashing it), and it's put me through a lot. :banghead: I must admit though, I do enjoy riding it around so I can spend even less on gas and oil than the 2Ts. Of course, I coulda bought a lot of gas and oil for what I have in this thing since day 1... but then I wouldn't have learned anything about the GY6 and I couldn't put together any info about 'em. That's also a big part of why I wanted to mess with this thing. I still wanna build a GY6 150 too. Got one sitting right in my garage taunting me... practically begging for a stroker crank and a big bore kit. Doesn't belong to me though. It's lucky. lol ;D Seriously, I'm gonna try to buy it again if I can at some point. It just sits there, in perfect running order other than the problems that come from neglect (low battery, carb gets a little gummed up from gas just sitting in it).

Most folks dont use an accurate speedo and quote high speeds,bet if they had Sigmas it would be a different tune!! True, the speedo's on them are way out of whack. Mine was out by at least 10%, I'm fortunate that the digital one on my new scoot is bang on.

Hey you keep mentioning your weight but i bet around 50mph wind drag is a huge part of it as well.
