Plastic timing chain sprockets wow! That's a new one on me. Brings a whole new meaning when they talk about Chinese bikes made of cheese I bet they didn't last long.

Ford V8's back in the 70's if I remember right, about 60-80k miles. Back in those days the V8 Ford engines only made it to 100k, Chevy's only made it to 80K, and Mopars made 120k on average. Cooling and oiling systems were crude, thermostats were 180°F also.

If I remember correctly Ford transit V4's of the 70's over here used fibre timing gear that was used on the crankshaft and use to strip. Not sure if it damaged the rest of timing pinions when it gave up the ghost.

Yolanda " where did you put the instructions" Me " Yes dear" Got there in the end only took about an hour longer. Just got to get the blacksmith to angle the drop plate up about 10 degrees and all will be level and we can get her mobility scooter on it and go out more.
Only one part not sure of but I do remember when I did look at the instructions a while ago it didn't show where it went.

That is a tremendous amount of leverage on that hitch. Can it be shortened?

That is a tremendous amount of leverage on that hitch. Can it be shortened? There is and a quick answer is no at present but it needs looking into for sure. I'm not that happy with it. The rack weighs 37 kg and mobility scooter about 40 kg max and nose weight on the towball socket is 90 kg but there's a lot of stress on that when it's bouncing up and down will need careful monitoring each trip it takes locally for now.

Is that hitch receiver supposed to be on the opposite side of the mounting plate? That would shorten the overhung load considerably.

Went to work on son's motorcycle this afternoon guess who lost the nuts and bolts for the new battery. Still wasn't a waste of time as I managed to sort out his 3 boxes of manky bits that had been removed or came with it down to one box of needed parts and put the rest out for the recycling when the bin men come tomorrow. Also found a posh new headlight I got and was going to fit. So that can go on eBay tomorrow.

Today me and my son went to see my mum in the care home and come out to a flat tyre. Pumped it up once on the 16 mile trip home just to be safe then garage let me use the tyre machine. Had dinner went over checked carcass no sharp objects cleaned up the rim squirt bead with soapy water no bubbles put wheel on lower off jack then bubbles at bead. So clean with wire wheel no bubbles one side but the other side decided to leak. Tyre off again clean up both sides inspect with bright light all smooth no hairline fractures in rim, tyre valve all good put back on leave both sides of tyre for a while after squirting again with soapy water. All is good till go put on axle. Jack had partially collapsed, sorted that son called say he left his cafe keys in car go to town drop them off come out tyre flat again. Pump up now home. Put spare on in morning and damn mechanic can look at it. I hate alumimiminumm rims give me steel any day. 🤬

I am with you there. Give me steel wheels -any day.
You probably have a nice big crack in the wheel near the bead that opens up with a load on it. Air can travel a ways around the bead making bubbles anywhere. That last picture has a spot in the middle that does not look good.

Indeed FrankenMech am just going to change it and now we have a boiling hot day to contend with as well.
