I recently ordered a habistat thermostat heat pad controller from Amazon. I received a 230v 50hz version for some other country that the USA, where we use 110v 60h. Apparently I bought it "through a third-party seller"and now they want me to ship it all the way back to England on my dime and wait a month to get paid back just because they advertise the wrong product. I thought Amazon was an easy company to buy from because it was easy to return if you got the wrong product, but apparently it's a little more complicated than that. Be careful buying strange products on Amazon, you may be stuck with it if somebody sells you the wrong product.

There's a tick box on the left usually that will allow you to see products from amazon.com only if you wish to only deal with them directly. It will reduce the number or items in your query though.

Yeah, I didn't know that. My fiance has a corn snake, and she needed a heat pad controller, so she sent me a link to the one that she was told she needed. The product was available through Amazon, and I figured that was the best way to buy it because of their so-called easy-to-use return policy. I guess I should have spent a few more minutes reading all the words on the damn page haha.

Sorry man. I know what a hassle that can be.
Check with your credit card agency. You might be able to get the charges reversed.
You can also reach out to amazon about the reason for the return (received wrong item/different than described). It might take a chat session online with them.
Lots of times, showing only “Prime” items, even if you do t have a Prime account will take a lot of not great sellers.
Sometimes I think that Amazon marketplace it’s starting to look like Alibaba.

I've actually had better luck on Alibaba haha. At least they take PayPal and that's nice.
Amazon wouldn't return this product without me shipping it back to the seller on my dollar. They even gave me a three day ultimatum and said "this is reasonable to us" like they know my work schedule and responsibilities. So I sent it, thinking they would refund my shipping cost, and they will, 5 days after it arrives to the original seller. Who, I'd like to remind yall, misadvertised this product. I've also found that it's actually a little cheaper other places. I feel like a fool. Not only did I pay too much for a product that looked used (unsealed package and marks on the wall plug that made it look previously used) that won't work in my country, but I had to pay MORE money just to have the chance at getting my money back in the next week or so. And my fiance's snake is still cold, cuz I can't afford to buy a different thermostat until I get my $80+ back.
Beware of Amazon. apparently there's a chance you have to go through this crap.
Oh, and I live in Seattle, aka Amazon-land. I live like a few miles from several of there werehouses and there home office. They still can't fix this for me. Wtf?

Amazon marketplace is like the old flea bay, but you can find some good deals in the corners from honest small businesses as well, just check their seller ratings carefully.

Yup. Did that. They said there waiting for a response from the seller. Seller claims it hasn't arrived. I've called and emailed them several times. I even shipped it back (proirity) with my own money and sent them a tracking number. Amazon did refund me the $12.90 for the shipping, but that's it so far.

I had ordered some wire harness stuff for my train layout the issue I ran into was ordered 5 they sent 4. This was the second mistake on the same oreder from this seller. Igot a response very fast at first they asked what I wanted a partial refund a 10 buck credit or an extra month of prime. I asked for a refund of the missing harness in the end they saw all the issues I had with the seller. The initial mistake of only sending half the order then this being shorted and they refunded the whol thing.
What really sucked last night I had ordered what was disxribed as a caboose and box car only to get an email this morning saying they were decal sets not the cars. The seller says it’s amazons fault the discrepancy is there and item isn’t as described yet has no pics other then a partial box from a train car manufacturer

Walmart.com is heading the same way. Third party China sellers that are not held accountable are becoming the scourge of online purchases. Personally I will not do another with either Ebay or Walmart.com, with Walmart.com You have zero protection. Amazon has the A-Z guarantee. Ebay claims to protect. But did nothing for me on a Lithium Battery Pack. That was sold "not as advertised". They agreed it was not as advertised, but it was a "third party sale". I told them it was there "last Sale" I then closed my account.
Did you know it takes close to a month to close your Ebay Account. They need the time, to protect their customers they explained to me. So a few minutes to make an account, But weeks to close one. Your proceeds and any other claims, are also frozen during the shut down period.

I've been on eBay since 2001 with around 1100 feedback, prob more like 12-1300 transactions as a buyer and seller. Probably 10 real issues. Mostly resolved to my satisfaction. My biggest headache there is leaving anything but positive feedback may get you hassled by an angry seller, regardless if it was deserved or not. The feedback and star ratings are kinda crappy now with the bias given to power sellers. I see people taking forever to ship items with near 100% feedback and 4.6-5.0 star ratings with comments in feedback about taking a while to get the product. That's a bit odd. I do not buy from sellers with low amounts of feedback though. IDC if I need the part and can't find it anywhere else at all, I'll do without before buying from someone with 10 feedback unless it's a $5 part and worth the risk IMO.
Walmart is a pain. Haven't ordered there since I had fraudulent charges on my account after an order years ago. Their site got really slow for me anyway for a long time, to the point that I didn't even use it to look up anything in their stores.
Amazon I'm still 100% positive experiences. I've returned a few things, mostly clothing that didn't fit well, and it's never been a hassle.
I think if you really have a big issue with any 3rd party seller though, these companies are somewhat likely to make it at least a bit of a pain to get help. None of them really care IMO. They just want to keep a good enough rep that we'll keep buying their stuff.

Amazon is looking over it's shoulder, worried about the tariff pen, but you should know even the USPS has a division whose sole purpose is to help foreign companies import direct to consumer's doors and bypass normal customs.
