Well for the second time now I’ve run over car parts on the road IN A TURN that has caused me to foot slap the road. This time it was a rusted off body mount in an intersection. Left turning ran over it with both tires kicking the bike to the right several uncomfortable inches. Brain panic sets in and the left foot instinctively shoots out and down slapping the road which is going past at more than bicycle speed. Maybe one day I’ll learn that the bike isn’t gonna just flop right over but until then that damn foot is gonna pop down every time. Kinda stings. Target fixation doesn't help. Seen it following people many times. You see an object in the road. If you look at it, you steer towards it. You need to look where you want to go. If you position yourself toward the centre line going right round corners. And towards the edge of the road going left it gives you more line of sight. Sometimes enough to spot hazards. I was following a car the other night. And a fox got hit in the middle of the road by it. First I see of it is coming out from under the wheels of the vehicle in front. Took some swift steering response to miss it. You never know what you are going to come across riding Rob.

I ran over a live squirrel several months ago. I was solo on the road and could see we were going to collide. I told my brain to maintain course as an abrupt avoidance maneuver would have likely been worse. Rob:1 Squirrel:0

I got one also with my 3rd bike. It would have lived if it hadn't jumped up and met my footpeg. Only 53 years ago.

Glad you're back and hopefully feeling much better by now. There are too many stories of false/inaccurate accounts of accidents leading to no fault or shared fault determinations. I watch quite a few driving fails vids and pretty regularly I'll see captions that a dash cam saved them from an otherwise tough battle. From your story, I'd think if someone were to be gestured to go first in an intersection, then they should be accelerating. Unless it's a heck of a big intersection or they're being reckless, they shouldn't get going so fast that they couldn't stop once they saw you move or at least end up with nothing more than minor contact. Now if that person were already moving because they ran a stop sign or light or otherwise failed to yield, then I'd expect collision force as described.

Terrible news. Just glad you are okay. Nobody wants to put their hands up and admit they are in the wrong these days.

Rule 111 Never assume that flashing headlights is a signal inviting you to proceed. Use your own judgement and proceed carefully. So he is still at fault.
