Well yesterday on my way to fill out the paper work for my new job I got into a little accident . Friday when I went to my interview I got a ride to the store ( restaurant Depot ) for my interview . I got a ride to check out the route before I rode my scooter there .. Yesterday I rode my scooter there . On my way I must have been following the car in front of me too closely . He swerved a bit a which I thought there was a manhole cover . Turned out to be a hole the size of a basketball and deep . I locked up my brakes . The front tire went into the hole and the back end of the scooter lifted up . And I sorta just tipped over . Spilling onto the ground . Got up and picked up the scooter , took it off to the side of the road . Bike checked out okay no damage . Scooter started right up and I went on my way .
At the store filling out the paper work. , my neck was sore and I could feel that my hip and back on my right side were getting sore . Felt a bit like my insides on my right side was hurting a bit . Over all I am okay . Just a bit sore . Going to give the front assembly another look over today , but it rode just fine after the accident .
Part of the road I am taking is a bit rough . I need to slow down in that area . Not to follow behind cars so closely . That hole was hard to see until I was right on it . No damage to cloths and no road rash . Just a bit sore on my right side .
Glad I had the full face helmet , and my kevlar jacket on . Lessons learned about riding the hard way . If I damaged that bike it would have ended the job before I started . So fortunately it's okay and I am just a bit sore .

Looking at getting this for my summer commutes . Need something that will be reasonably cool when off the scooter .

My 11yr old bit it in the driveway on his bike today. He’ll laugh at me for riding in motorcycle gear on my 50mph scooter but if I’m “really” lucky my gear will limit this when it happens.

Order a size up if anyone gets one. I've almost exclusively worn HJC helmets for nearly 20 years. XXL for me every time... but I replaced my helmet after a crash in 2018 with another HJC and it was tight around my forehead and gives me headaches. Figured it was just that model for some reason. Bought another higher tier HJC helmet in XXL. Same deal. Either my head suddenly got fatter or something changed with their sizing. They mostly fit OK. I wouldn't notice in a store for a try on, but I shouldn't be getting headaches.

I had to do some surgery on my modular helmet to make the vents actually work rather than 'cosmetic style' looking. Once that was done the helmet was a lot more comfortable to wear all year and it reduced visor fogging. The surgery violated the hell out of warranties and probably safety ratings but oh well.

Snuck in a 30 mile ride this Sunday morning. Deer ran across the road in front of me, not panic close but too close. Then a few miles later a 8” diameter turtle was in my lane, I went to the center to go ‘round him and Mr. Squirrel decided it was a good day to die. I didn’t try to swerve I just maintained and bumped over him. I slowed and circled back. Helped the turtle across the street (always move turtles the same direction they were going) and verified that the squirrel had passed away. What can you do? Saved one lost another.

Well for the second time now I’ve run over car parts on the road IN A TURN that has caused me to foot slap the road.
This time it was a rusted off body mount in an intersection. Left turning ran over it with both tires kicking the bike to the right several uncomfortable inches. Brain panic sets in and the left foot instinctively shoots out and down slapping the road which is going past at more than bicycle speed.
Maybe one day I’ll learn that the bike isn’t gonna just flop right over but until then that damn foot is gonna pop down every time.
Kinda stings.
