Today I teared into the transmission area, everything looks fine, left aside the dirt and grime there. Will need a good scrub. Other than this, there is a rattling like sound that comes from the right side of the engine - sounds like a loose nut, washer or something that vibrates / resonates, as far as I can tell, from the fan / flywheel area. Have a listen and please tell me your ideas, I want to get rid of this sound. vimeo.com/364540039

Sounds like an exhaust or head gasket leak? No fan no shrouds, it will overheat for sure.

I use a medium size pair of needle nose vice grips. I grab the tab with the vice grips. Spin the kickstart gear with vice grips holding the tab on the right side all the way around until you can pry the spring down into its seat. It's the easiest way for me. Hard to explain over the internet and it's definitely takes some elbow.

By the way, any of you blokes have a block off oil pump plug similar to the one I've posted in the link above? I would like to have some measurements, maybe I can have someone machine one for me. Probably I would get at the same price as buying one but minus shipping.

on the kick starter. I loosen the kick start arm pinch bolt and remove it. pull the arm off half way. flip the cover over and pull the gear out enough it clears the stopper. twist it backward far enough to get the spring hooked on its pin/tab/tab. then with the kicker arm, twist it back the other direction, past the gears stopper block. then you push gear shaft back through cover. keep an eye on the spring make sure it goes back to its place around the cover casting that holds the kicker shaft. then you push kicker arm back down and reinstall the pinch bolt and youre done. use the kicker arm to fight the spring. the leverage is an advantage to use.

This is a golden tip&trick! Thank you!! One more question addressed to the 2t gurus. As I stated previously, I want to remove the oil pump. Would a simple plug work, instead a plug that mimics the shape of the oil pump drive shaft? Will this affect how the engine behaves? I understand that the crankcase volume is very important for the 2t engines.

goodkat I have even used JB weld epoxy to plug the hole. I used tape to dam up the area at the crank and completely filled the oil pump cavity up.

oldgeek, thanks. So there shouldn't be any issue if I'm plugging the hole with a simple aluminum plug with a gasket and a screw to secure it in place . Thanks!
