Show him the cash as you remind him 'riding season is over and were are you going to put it when it snows?' LMAO works every time! Good luck Well works ALMOST every time, i did what everyone suggested. i went back to pep boys today and spoke directly with dan the manager, a nice enough fellow i guess. We walked over to the scoot and i pointed out the scratches and scuffs and loose things, his reply was " thats because its not finished being setup yet, we just put it out here for display" (so let me get this straight, hes telling me that when they finish setting it up the scratches will dissapear?) We then talk about the scoot and its performance in the market, he tells me that i have to have a motorcycle license to drive it as its "not a 50 its a 150 ya know" i tell him i understand i just drove here with a 150 and YOU DO NOT need a license. I tell him all that aside winter is coming riding season is over and ill do 700 cash right now, i show him the bills as i say this. he looks at me adn says "i cant do it, i got to have this thing inspected and then theres our setup fee" So we go on and on and then he says " ill tell you what ill take some money off the 69.99 dealer fee, make it 29.99, thats the best i can do" I tell him so this one is a little older been sitting here to wich he replys "we just brought that one out of the box a couple weeks ago" he obviously didnt know i saw the spiders nest on the front rim, and the layer of dust on the scoot, in an air circulation controlled store that wouldnt be there if it was "just put out" So i talk to him and he tells me the soonest he can get it inspected is monday and my total would be 829.99, i inform him that i can get it inspected but (and he is correct on this point) he tells me that just like a car dealer a NEW vehicle (which the scoot technically is) cannot be sold off the floor without a state inspection. I tell him i would think it over he dismisses me by walking away! Well im out of time to buy a rocketa or something shipped in, i still need time to do a break in, so they got me by the balls. HEres the part im curious on is it still a NEW VEHICLE if i buy one unassembled in a crate, or is it a product then.... Im a bit stumped and pissed I read on the forum i think about someone taking one home in a crate for the wife, how do i go about doing that, the last thing i want is them riding this thing to an inspection station on the "crisco" shipping oil in the scoot! any thoughts on how this should all go down! thanks again!

Its a product if its in the crate. Since when do you NOT need a license for anything over 50cc? its a 150 dude you gotta have a license, tags, ins., etc.. for that.

go back and tell em you want one in the crate. if you can do all the other stuff you said you can do then you can put one together. i would rather put it together myself anyway that way i know its right.

So here is the Saturday update on the scooter buying saga, I went to pep boys and spoke with the same manager (dan) and told him straight out I wanted to buy an sc150 in a crate. He told me that there was no crates to sell (then I reminded him that JUST yesterday he told me he had some in back) he then told me that the ONE back there in the crate had been dropped and damaged and the tail section was smashed in, that he was trying to send it back to new York. That’s ok I said I didn’t want that bike anyway. Going back to the bike setup I told him I wanted to do it myself and apparently its POLICY that the setup be done by their employees. According to dan people used to buy them in crates years ago and told the salespeople they were mechanically inclined, and that turned out to not be the case. Dan used other words to describe those people im just paraphrasing to be polite. So with all that said he is going to drive the bike over to central maine powersports (pep boys does do stickers but NOT motorcycle stickers) and get it stickered. Then I am going to meet him at 1 pm Monday where he will have all my title documents and paperwork for the state ready for me. I told him it was nothing personal and he was aware of the war stories of pep boys setups in the past, he assured me he HIMSELF drained the “crisco” packing oil and put brand new oil in it so I had nothing to worry about. He said when I got it home if I didn’t like something to bring it back and he would fix it or make it right. So I guess its settled, barring the store burning down im getting the one on the sales floor once it has had its inspection. I will driver it slowly home and do the pdi I found in this link x1scooters.com/pdi.htmlAfter that I will replace the gears and the speedometer cluster, then the adventure can begin!

Glad you've got it worked out. It really wouldn't make sense for them to sell a scoot and let the user assemble if they are supposed to warranty it. They'd never be able to tell who's gonna destroy it and who's gonna do a better job prepping it than them. It's still a great price and where else are you going to buy one in Maine and have the option to get it serviced by the same company in Florida?

Brent your right a lot of that makes sense, lol, FYI im not sure pep boys would be able to service those scoots lol, so ill pass on the pep guard plan i think, i can pretty much do most maintenance and repair myself Hopefully monday will see some new pics of my scoot ill let you know what happens
