Sounds like you’re making good progress!
I wonder why my kit seems to run so much cooler than other people’s? I wonder if it has something to do with the Polini head?

The polini head would be a advantage . The carb you have is a big up grade over stock. You also built your scoot from scratch and sealed it up tight. Most builds at best can match you on 2 of the 3 above.

It has been so long since I have run a stock pipe with a kit . I forgot how torquey the stock pipes are at low rpms .
A quick and easy build for a 2002 -2005 Zuma That Buries the needle Swap on a sport kit cast iron malossi polini top performance stage 6 Keep the stock pipe up jet the stock carb 84 jet lower the needle a clip Get a sport variator . Swap in some Gears to get you to 11 to 1 . After she is dialed in you will Break 50 mph and have plenty of down low torque .
This is the way they should have made the Stock Zuma IMHO.
400 bucks gets you To 50 mph if you did it on your own.

Yeah I suppose all of those are true.
Speaking of which, I’ve been searching for another Polini head and can’t find one anywhere. Any idea of where to get one? I just want a spare.

What is so special about this Magic Polini head?Couldnt another head be converted to Magic with machine work?? I had one on-hand when I was assembling and Zino mentioned other people using a Corsa head on the Athena cylinder to get squish down. With the Athena head, squish was ~1.3mm and with the Corsa head it was ~0.75mm. All ports and transfers lined up nicely with that squish setting as well, so I went with it. So far, I’ve been super happy with my setup and it runs cooler than just about every other air-cooled build I can think of atm. So I guess I’m just of the “play it safe” and “don’t fix it if it ain’t broke mentality.” I’m sure there are other heads that work just as well once machined or even out of the box, but I’m lazy too haha. If I can buy it at a reasonable price and not have to modify factory machining, I usually will.

The Polini head corsa or contessa with a O-ring is a nice addition . On the Athena Basic I have the head decked and running copper spray only on the head to get below .96 mm. So that the Transfers line up .

2 tanks a gas down so the Yasuni R is back on Working on Dialing in the Jetting on the Stock Carb. Dialing in the main Needle is one clip rich on all below settings 84 Teikei Barely rich enough idle hangs up best acceleration 55 mph top speed 90 mikuni a slighty too rich no idle hang good aceleration after it cleans up 55 mph top speed 95 mikuni gurgly rich no idle hang sucky acceleration 53 mph top speed .
I am going to work on clip next on the 84 and see if I can clean up that hanging idle . and then dial in the weights in the variator .

I have a feeling once you get your main and mid sorted the hanging idle will start to clear itself up.
What’s your pilot jet?

46 pilot jet . Its one size up from the zuma one which is a 44. Did not have time to adjust the needle down a clip For the 84 jet .
Came across a gear box leak I made my own gasket last year it sprung a leak . Cut out a new one I have a few on order.
Made a couple Weight runs 6 gram sliders are peaking Rpms at 9500-9600 55 mph 5 gram sliders are peaking Rpms at 9800 -10000 Way better acceleration 57 mph I Did not have time to run 5.5 grams But first glance the Yasuni R with Athena likes just a notch lighter weights than Malossi with the Athena .
