The Good I hit New Highs on The Zuma 58 and 59mph on the same stretch of road both ways . The Athena Sport with the Polini Head at .8 Squish Paired with The Yasuni really gives it some snap. The Budget Overange really snaps up the wheel anytime I want. That Yasuni Pipe is Loud and Proud and it really wakes the Neighbors . My Son wants his first Scoot To have that Pipe
The Bad I did only get about 600 miles out of the Last Athena Ring.
The Worse My Son did not hand tighten the Spark Plug and he cross threaded the Polini Head .
So the Zuma is down until I get one shipped in.
That Polini Head got my squish down to .8 The only way I could get the squish below 1 without decking the Athena head and running the thinnest base gasket .

Hope he learns and never cross threads anything ever again.

Just slapped a quick build together for a friend .
2003 Zuma Bang for the Buck Athena 70 cc sport single ring alumuninum. These kits give you 5 gaskets /spacer to help set squish . Normally It is hard to get squish down to .9 spec that the kit wants. You can run these kits all the way down to .7
So I ordered a Polini Cylinder Head from PartsforScooters to help tighten up squish. He ordered His Athena Kit off Amazon .
I assembled the cylinder and spaced so we could get the Polini head to.75 Squish . It took the paper gasket at .5mm and the Second thinnest metal spacer at .2 mm.
When I took the Athena head no gasket he got with the kit to show him the big improvement its squish was at .7mm.
I grabbed the Athena Head I had on the shelf That I had decked .2 mm and when I tested squish it was above .7mm
So the same company had .2 mm dfference for their kit .One of them must have been made on a Friday.
So I copper Sprayed up his Athena and I am keeping his Polini Head .
So i am Glad I checked he has a Spunky Build and I got some polini parts .
Here is what we did for just over 200 bucks
2003 Yamaha Zuma Athena 70 cc Sport Stock Carb 84 yamaha main jet he also has the 82 and 80 Needle raised one notch rich Stock Pipe These have No Cat they keep the Rpms down Stock transmission settings 6.5 gram weights Went to the br9hs plug that the Athena likes .
He is ordering some medium springs and some 5.5 gram weights and a cheap chinese Temp Gauge .
He recently gpsd it and is hitting 47-48 mph .
He got his gauges and his weights and springs it is much snappier and temps with the 84 jet peak in the 340's

After This build I decided to sell the my Zuma on Facebook Marketplace . The price for used ones are crazy by me Used with low miles are selling for 2100-2500 bucks stock. A ton of Low Ballers that did not even come look at it but all said cash today.
I had 2 serious buyers one had to reschedule and lost out . The one showed up with a Yamaha Technician He took it down the road . I never realized that you can hear the straight cut gears from a 100 yards away. It sounds cool like a Turbo Spinning up. When I am on it the pipe drown out the noise .
I took it back as close to stock as possible .
Stock pipe Athena Cylinder .8 Squish I left the 11 to 1 gears in . Michelin Boppers Stock pipe stock trans He took it down the road it was still breaking 50 mph at 8600-8800 rpms He came back with that BBK smile . Loaded it Up and Drove off
So I am back to 3 Scooters and will focus on my roughouse .

Zumas are like gold on Marketplace. Took me a year and a half of immediately responding “I’ll take it” to get one.

here is me on my ride home from work so I did another run opposite direction 54.2 mph that way and 57.8 wind aided So I am comfortable calling it a 54-56 mph build . That’s impressive as hell Zino.

It was a Fun Build . Never Broke 60 consistently to call it a 60 mph build without wind. I was hitting 58-60 on my wide open runs over and over again
The Yasuni R paired with an Athena sport really revs . When I detuned it in stages the Athena was still pushing strong .
First thing is I took off the Budget Overrange (Malossi variator paired with the Top Performance Torque driver and polini bws 100 belt Malossi Delta Clutch)
With just Athena Sport Polini Head to get the squish down below .9 Yasuni R 11-1 gears Dellorto 19mm I was still breaking 55 mph.
Then I took off the Carb and the Yasuni . So I was Stock Carb, Stock Trans ,Stock Pipe Athena Sport & 11 to 1 gears . I was still burying the needle and breaking 50 mph . With great take off .
To break 60 consistently I was going to have to put in a crank and Go to the Yasuni C16 . I needed to be over 10,500 rpms
I figure when the scooter market gets back to normal I always can pick up another Zuma . I have enough spare parts in the garage to build two of them to the 55 mph level .

I have enough spare parts in the garage to build two of them to the 55 mph level . That all aligns with what I saw over last season on my build. As you know, my build was very similar to yours, but I had a crank. Pretty sure it was a crank that was out of true, but nonetheless the engine ran well. I could touch 60-61ish mph pretty consistently from what I remember. 63-64mph was my top speed. 58mph was easy cruising in most conditions. I had the C16 on my build for at least 500 miles or so and it never ran as good as the R. I could never get the mid throttle carb tune proper. I tried jets, needles, slides and everything else on a CP. Maybe I should’ve tried a bigger carb or a PHBG instead. Either way, I’m excited for the Athena evolution and 85mm MHR crank on my zuma this year. Should be fun.

I’m on vacation right now, but have most of a word doc typed up for a post that catches you up to speed on most of what went on during the last few months with the Zuma. Just have to get the pics out of my phone for it. Never wait so long to update a build thread as I just did. It’s a pain in the ass haha. Had quite a go of it lately, but I’m excited for that Evolution.

Alot of Guys will paint thee exhaust with VHT paint for Rust Prevention. Here is another Option Just buy some MOP N Glo and Brush It on Regularily . The Heat of the exhaust Turns the layer of Mop N Glo a Bronze Color . Do you apply it over the factory varnish that comes on the pipe or do you strip it to bare metal first? How do you apply it and how often? Seems like a great way to protect such a nice pipe. I want to do something similar to my Yasuni

The lacquer on the Yasuni pipe will burn off after the first couple of rides. It's only to protect the pipe until it's used.
