I’m sure this isn’t helping the situation any. These readings are from my temp gauge which has a constant 12v on from the battery system when the key is turned on. Something is fishy.

So I checked voltage with a real meter at the battery this morning and I have a nice steady 12.7 there. The gauge cluster was going blank with key on-engine off when I would light the brake lights. I’m thinking there is a bad connection somewhere. Either a plug, wire or switch is bitched up. I’ll hunt it down.

I wiggled twisted poked pulled prodded, all in vain. I did find the small ground wire from the battery was not connected although the large ground wire was. I’m not sure if it will have an effect but it might? There was an extra ground wire up in a cluster area that was not hooked up from my cluster swap so I attach that with a ring terminal to the handle bar area. I did swap out the voltage regulator with another one but I’m not sure if it made a difference yet. The voltage readings from the temperature gage or wildly different from the voltage readings from a real meter.
Is there any relay that connects battery voltage to the cluster area or is it only through the key switch? I’m starting to think my key switch may be on the fritz.

With your leads across it, when you start it, if it dips below 9.6 it’s shot.

I think that may be backwards. 12.6 at rest 13.8 when charging At least with automobile systems.

So out goofing off, seeing if my grounding issue fixed the WOT stumble. It seems to have. Made a max 54mph tucked on flat road. She’ll do 50 steady. This is with a 30303 Power Link belt, stock variator with a straight groove torque driver of unknown make. My clutch slips like max at low speed/high rpm for takeoff. When I gas it from a stop sign it hits 9k and stays there until around 20mph then the weights must be a tad heavy because it will drop into 8k range for a bit. But at least it will downshift on hills. Those angled groove factory drivers suck. I need to play with shims and see what I can do with that. For speed adjustment. Some other day. It’s taco time.

Does 55-60v AC seem right for an AC CDI?

Does 55-60v AC seem right for an AC CDI? If I'm checking the exciter wire (often black/red or red/black) from the stator, disconnected from the harness, I hope to see 50VAC or above.

I have a bad power wire in the harness leading to the keyswitch. Under any load the +12v wire drops to zero. May explain some difficulties.

So this is the culprit. An in line fuse under the belly pan of the scooter. When I pulled the actual fuse out of it a sound emanated from it akin to an aluminum shovel on a sidewalk. Crusty! Why Keeway would install a blade type dry location fuse in an area that sees moisture is beyond me. My headlights were flickering when the turn signals would blink, my speedometer would not always come on, all caused by that crusty fuse and I’ve been dealing with those two issues among others for some time. Always chasing down wrong leads. High speed WOT seems to not stumble either. All repairs are temporary until the next problem rears it’s ugly head.

From November 2nd to September 25th I’ve covered 2000 miles. Blown two cylinders via small end bearings and swapped engine cases once. It’s been a good ride and I definitely got my $400 entrance fee out of it. Since then I’ve spent probably $600 in dribs and drabs and maybe closer to $800. I’ve never had any other vehicle since I started driving in 1986 that I’ve done performance mods to. Many more miles covered thanks to the fine folk here. Now back to riding.
