Captain wow that is some carnage . Can you take a picture behind the variator where you had the washers . something might have got hung up on the back With that much flying loose you must have had some serious vibration before it exploded

Not really any serious vibration. Seemed normal other than I lost 25% then 50% then 90% forward drive. I was about two miles from the GF’s house and I was trying to limp there. I stranded myself in a nice person’s driveway who offered tools if I needed them. Behind the variator it’s just dusty, metal flakes from the washers rubbing each other like faux lesbians at a bar. I’ll snap some more pics tomorrow while I make a parts order.

What kind of belt was that ? That variotor key is designed with softer metal to explode so you dont ruin your crank . If your threads are good and the shaft has no major play in it you may have to just replace a belt and variator .

It was a used Malossi overrange belt. Splines look ok from what I saw. I’ll look better tomorrow.

At he very end of the shaft you may have some aluminum from the variator key ground into the threads . Some needle files can clean that up . Just use a good variator key to guide you

I think you dodged a bullet . The threads look real good . A little cleanup in the case new variator and belt and you should be good.

It's about time you got a bit of luck. Crank looks fine if it's still true. 👍

Scooter Tuning came through. Took 27 hours to arrive at my door. I installed the new star washer, some Naraku spacers to fit the belt to the variator nicely, used the straight groove torque driver I was using prior to my 128mm experiment and the variator from the parts scooter that had 140 miles on it. All back together and running. Takes off nicely but at sustained high throttle it misses and carries on like outs losing spark or running out of fuel. If I cut throttle it’s fine and from a dead stop I have full power. It was doing this before my belt exploded also. Should I change plug, wire, CDI or chase fuel flow level?
