I know on my wife's Aprilia, if there is no CVT cover gasket it binds.

I know on my wife's Aprilia, if there is no CVT cover gasket it binds. whats interesting is that it doesnt bind sometimes. In fact 90% of the time it works normally. I think it has to do with the clock spring that winds the kicker lever back but I am not sure.

I did some testing with my new airbox. Im most likely going to return it as I dont like the angle it sticks out from the side panels. ScooterTuning sells an airbox with a 45° adapter. The sound certainly changed with the airbox, not as loud or pingy especially when you give it some throttle.

What intake manifold are you using? Old school KRS and the stage 6 sit the carb straight with the motor. Ct chrome, black, naraku and most china/taiwan intakes kick and the carb out at an angle. I run the stage 6 so my airboxes sit tighter to the motor/side of the bike.

Ill have to keep an eye out for a KRS or Stage6 one. Do you have a prefered model?

I dont think krs is still available new. So i have stage 6 on my 2 motors. I prefer the stage 6 reed valve over the taiwan/china ones too.

I tried to take the new airbox out on a ride and it failed. The bike was running way rich. I think this airbox design may be too restrictive for my liking. I swapped it back for the Polini pod and she was back to running like a champ. I think its running a bit hot right now though. If I hold wide open for even a few moments temps climb steadily to 340°+. I think I should go up in Main Jet a few sizes. Id rather run rich and slow than fast and hot.

I bought that same airbox. My intention was to use it with the 30mm Lectron or maybe some other big carb. It claims to be up to 50mm, depending on the adapter used. It's been a bit since I looked at it, but IIRC the opening isn't even quite 50mm. The 30mm Lectron has a 50mm mouth and I can't just mount it directly to the carb anyway, so I was going to open it up and make a sort of flange setup to let me mount a hose to it with a 50mm/2" ID.
I still plan to try it at some point, but I agree that it is sort of disappointing. I had a different kart airbox long ago and that thing was big. Probably better suited as a big bore airbox, but awkward to mount on a scoot. There are quite a few airbox configurations available for karts, so the right one may be out there, but a lot don't bother to mention dimensions.

from your pics, looks like you are not running a CVT cover gasket. have you ever thought about buying the aluminum spacer that takes the place of the cover gasket? they make spacers for the 1 pc covers and spacers for the 2 pc covers too. i installed the cover without the gasket and i had similar binding issues. i also ended up "squeezing" the starter bendix by trying to clamp the cover with the bolts. that's when i figured there is a reason they came out with those aluminum spacers to take up the same thickness as the stock rubber gasket.
but it could be a worn bushing on the kick start assembly, or a lack of lubrication on the moving parts of the kick start assembly.

Having some experience with their products makes me believe its a quality project. Theres two things holding me up from buying it. One is its cost. It holds a K&N filter that costs quite a bit of money. Then the box itself is almost $80. For that price id be better off making myself an airbox out of Carbon Fiber. Also theres the size. I dont know how large the airbox is, theres not any dimensions given for it. I dont want to have a huge filter hanging out the back of the scooter.

No mounting provisions other than the clamp on filter. www.knfilters.com/rk-1000-kart-airbox-with-inlet-restrictors

Ill also take a look into making my own airbox out of carbon fiber. Making the mold will be challenging but im sure it can be done.

So I did some swapping around and installed the NCY Performance Ignition system. The NCY is essentially just a rebranded JISO/Taiwan part so theres no need to spend the $350 on it. I bought the NCY before I knew the JISO was really available. Here is a link for one from AliExpress for just $200, less with some coupons. a.aliexpress.com/_mL0ST1gAll that being said i am VERY happy with this part. It really makes performance pipes come alive. I had the Arrow on today and it really added some pep and liveliness to the ride. I recommend it to anybody who has a setup that revs high up. I took it out for a ride and I decided to take some measurements for performance and im happy I did. After about 100yards or so of 3/4~ throttle I was up to 50mph GPS. I think theres a lot more room for improvement in this setup, im pretty sure I can get into the 60s with this setup. The thing is I dont particularly care about topped out max speed performance. I dont even like riding that fast, i think its a little scary in all honesty. I do like that heavy acceleration from light to light and being able to keep up safely in traffic. Ill probably tune up this Dio to the point I can cruise in the 50s without stressing the engine out too much while keeping things safe and reliable. What do you think the top speed potential of this scooter is? Im not totally sure. Any tuning suggestions? Im not great at CVT tuning.

Quick update: I was getting too hot WOT so i went from a 124 main jet to a 126. I love having a quick change main jet, very nice feature. I am hoping this helps bring my temps down a little. I checked my CVT and noticed that the drive face and variator are wearing in a strange way. The belt is seemingly not running concentrically. I think this is my fault. I shaved down the performance variator face a little to help it fit properly onto the crank. It turns out the fitment problem was because I used the wrong drive boss, Im not sure where I got it but its a good few millimeters taller than the OEM drive boss. To fix the problem I replaced the drive boss with an OEM one and a OEM drive face. The OEM drive face is about 2x heavier than the performance model so Ill be replacing that sooner rather than later. The new setup is this 126 main, 42 pilot | 5g weights, white contra spring. Well check the CVT after a little riding and see how it looks. I used the marker trick to check travel.
