Kymco Yup 50.... I really did not need another scooter but the guy sait it was 50cc 2t with a CVT. He was willing to drive 45 minutes south to deliver it all for $50. I did not even look at it before the purchase. It was dark when he dropped it off so I really haven't seen it yet! I am not really sure what the engine is? It does not look like the Minarelli. It looks like the engine in an air cooled super 9 from researching the web. I hope you guys do not tell me this one is a dog. I do like the looks..

never heard of the yup the only issues i have seen with the kymcos is that there ones built in chinia seem to have more marranty issues or more odds and ends to fix during pdi
helped set up one that kept blowing fuses what we didnt realiz was that the turn signal was on and the front turn signal scoket had a dead short in it

The Yup is AKA a "Sting".. So is this a Taiwan scooter? I was hoping to get the Minarelli engine but hear these are pretty easy to get in to the high 40 or 50 MPH range.. Got that from the web so it must be true... ;D

the sting i rode was faster then the air cooled super 9 i still belive to fully derestrict the cdi on it you have to replace the cdi funny thing is a 4 stroke cdi is what people are using

Good scoots! The SF10 Kymco engine will run forever... Mine has allot of miles and its still going strong everyday. Ive put about 3,500 miles on it myself and its never missed a beat. Road it for close to a year without doing a thing to it just to see if i could. All ive ever done to it is clean the carb and airfilter, and replace the fuel filter. By choice i installed a Leo SP3 exhaust and it seems to be a good match for the stock cylinder. Tops out around 50MPH and gets there decent for a stock 49cc. Makes best power at 7-8,500RPM and tops out at around 9,500 before falling flat. Ive worked with other SF10 powered Kymco,s that will run right past 10,000 with a street pipe (Technigas, any of em). Lemmi know if i can help with anything?

I really have not had time to look this thing over and do a good assesment. I Have most of the body panels. I will says this about the little bugger It has 14552 miles on it. While this may be a bit of a concern for me it's also a bit of a testament to that engine. I have three chinese scooters now two of them are 2003 with less than 300 miles and the other is a 2007 with 2000 miles.

Thats kilometers on the OEM speedo. But yeah, no worries. Ive seen 25,00Okilo on a Kymco Cobra and it still runs strong. That one in particular has a taller ratio straight cut set of gears in it. It will run past 65MPH(stock speedo) on a good day. Since ive owned my Cobra i can really tell his has taller gears and they are straight cut for sure (noisy). One of the previous owners claimed he put "70cc gears" in it lol. So we were never really sure what was "really" done?

I really haven't had more than 10 minutes of time to look this scooter over but I think so far I like it. It is a 2002 Kymco Yup 50 which is the same thing as the Kymco Sting. The wheels are bigger with wider tires and the wheelbase seems longer. It has a somewhat retro look without being too "cute". Everything I am looking at just seems 20% better built than my other two scooter experiences. The plastics are certainly better which is my big gripe with chino scooters well that and the wiring. The plastics are rough but mostly not broken. Certainly going to be a couple of hours sanding and anything someone else sprayed on is going to go. The lights, missing are the headlight, and the front directionals. The tail light and rear directionals have holes in the lenses. So going to be looking for about everything that is a light on this thing. The engine did not have a plug in it and just pushing the kick start with my hand it did not seem to have a lot of compression. It is actually missing the brake pads to the front caliper.. If the missing parts list keep piling up this thing going into a hold pattern. Paying 29.95 for each directional on Ebay is just not my style nor practical. It is not pretty but here are some pics... s1012.photobucket.com/albums/af248/nwsmith427/02%20Kymco%20Yup/

It is a lil rough huh?... That is a SF10 engine though . If you wanted you could always shop around for another Kymco model such as (about all of em 2T TBH) the Super 9, Cobra, Agility, People...Etc. in better shape and your engine will swap right in. Just putting that out there. Although i am pretty interested to see what that little framed, lighter scooter will do with this engine tuned and running well. Wonder what gear ratio that one has? Ive ofter wondered that about the Kymco People as well? It has 16inch wheels and a SF10 2T. If it has the same ratio as mine it could be capable of some killer topend, and nice cruising speeds. You might want to pull that head, or look into the cylinder as best as possible with a flashlight to see if it has rust and or might be scored up, or just bad period.?. BTW, i forgot to mention. The one i spoke of with over 20,000 kilometer ate its rings at around that mark. I tried to warn the owner as it was giving symptoms of needing rings and maybe a piston? He tried to make it last and ended up needing both for sure.

If you didn't care about the indents, you could use LED turn signals and save money there. At that rate, swap over to an LED tail/brake too and it'll probably last longer and be as cheap and look cooler. Just depends if you want a clean stock look or you just want a scoot that works I suppose. I'll ride an ugly scoot as long as it's functional. Can't tell much by turning over a 2T with no plug in it usually, or at least I can't. With plenty of compression when the plug's in, they'll still turn over really easy with the plug out. Either way, I'd inspect it like 2strokd said.

Ugly is no problem it won't be that way when I am done. I really had not thought of Led lighting. Is there a good selection of complete assemblies with lenses and all?
I would like to see it run but with the milage may just want to go through it, or, maybe I will just see how much more punishment it can take if it runs OK. Nice to hear the SF10 engine is decent. I am not finding a plethora of parts out there for this model or engine though.
My thinking is this is a better scoot once fixed up than my GY6 with 10" wheels Peace scooter.
